To say that Rydia was surprised was an understatement, as well. She expected Kain and Edge to give into their idiotic display and fight each other, not to be used as a pawn in the conflict. Too late did she see Kain's intent, stiffening when his lips met hers.

Her cheeks were thoroughly red when they parted, and for a moment Rydia was speechless. She mentally scrambled for something to say, but time was not on her side. Only when the shuriken flew toward Kain afterward, did she (somewhat) snap out of the shock, automatically stepping away.
