This was the life. Rinoa relaxed on a sun lounger, soaking up the rays. Behind her sunglasses, her eyes were closed. She could hear the waves lapping gently against the beach in the background. It was as though the dragon invasion had never happened.

A group of holidaymakers passed by, laughing and joking as they headed for the sea. Rinoa sat up to take a look around. Hmm. Maybe it was time she went for a swim. But first she needed to reapply her sun cream. She smoothed back her hair and picked up her bottle of sun lotion. Now was there anyone around who might want to help?

Penelo's smile spread as she listened to Edward. There truly was something magical and wonderful about having a bard nearby, and despite Vaan griping about the parade of performers clogging up his airship, she for one appreciated all that Edward had to offer. He was kind and gentle, and so eloquent! "You really have a way with words. It's so poetic."

Her dainty hands slipped down his arm to catch his hand. "Walk with me?"

Edward only chuckled at her compliment. "I do try." It felt so good to speak with someone who understands him, especially since this someone is a fellow performer. Bards and dancers are thespians by trade despite their stage being the streets of various towns and cities. Penelo understands and appreciates his love of not only music, but of the arts in general. If had said something like that to Cecil or the others, the profound message of his words would have been lost easily.

"With pleasure, Penelo." Edward said as he wrapped his fingers around her small hand. Walking along the sandy shore with the lovely girl in tow, the Prince of Damcyan finally realized how wonderful peace felt.

Peaceful was the very word Penelo would have used to describe the setting. Even with the loud shouts and laughter that rang out over the breaking waves and seagulls, this place held a serenity that no other place could compare to, and she'd seen her fair share of two worlds.

Walking like this, hand in hand with Edward felt familiar, and comfortable. Not that anyone would ever replace Vaan in her life, but the bard did fill that close companionship role in her life. Only without the need to nag. Not that she could explain how they'd grown close so quickly, but she suspected it had to do with all that they shared in common.

For a fleeting moment, she rested her sunny head on his shoulder, and when she lifted it again, smiled warmly at him. "I never did tell you how much it meant to me that you were with me all this time. Thank you, so much."

Quietly humming to himself as he walked along the shore, Edward gave Penelo's dainty hand a tiny squeeze to make sure she was still there. Everything felt like a dream to him, a long dream that had no end in sight. While the horrors he witnessed within Narshe was enough to turn this dream into a nightmare, Penelo's angelic presence was more than enough to keep this as a whimsical dream. He owed the dancer a lot for uplifting his spirits, yet he feared the thought of losing her. Much like how he adored Anna, the bard found himself becoming too attached to Penelo now, and it truly worries him.

"Ah?" Gazing at her once she rested her head upon his shoulder, Edward was glad the girl couldn't see him blush right now. "Y-you're welcome." He replied with a faint chuckle. Unsure what else to say, Edward allowed silence to claim him once more.

When around Penelo, words are just meaningless in his opinion.

"Thank you for coming too. I know you just got home, but Mjrn..." she let that statement trail off. Edward understood how important it was to collect her friend, she was certain. In fact, she somewhat wondered if he and her friend had started growing fond of each other. Not that she had any intention of playing matchmaker, but he had taken it so terribly hard when they'd lost her. And if the two of them could make their peace with their losses and find happiness, she could be content and pleased for them. Perhaps a touch of envy for the good fortune, but that could and would go unspoken.

With the slightest hint of a smile at that train of thought, she glanced up at Edward through her lashes. "We were invited to a wedding, but it'll be no trouble to take you wherever you want to go before then. It's the least I can do for everything you've done."
