Kain really didn't want to be here. He felt terribly out of place. Mass gatherings of any sort bored him, not to mention made him bitter and jealous of certain happy individuals. He'd much rather be out stabbing monsters. So it had taken a great deal of coercion on Rydia's part to even get him to come. In the end, it had been guilt that won out... since she'd reminded him how he owed it to the others to be there, Cecil and Rosa particularly. He'd relented on one condition: that he not be forced into any pathetically unprotective dress clothes. So indeed once again he had shown up to a formal event fully armored.

It wasn't as if he planned to enjoy this or even to mingle. He would remain here long enough to show the others that he'd come, and then promptly take his leave. So once Kain arrived, he walked around the room, doing his best not to make eye contact with anyone. After what he thought as a decent lap around the room, he settled against a wall with his arms folded.
