This was the life. Rinoa relaxed on a sun lounger, soaking up the rays. Behind her sunglasses, her eyes were closed. She could hear the waves lapping gently against the beach in the background. It was as though the dragon invasion had never happened.

A group of holidaymakers passed by, laughing and joking as they headed for the sea. Rinoa sat up to take a look around. Hmm. Maybe it was time she went for a swim. But first she needed to reapply her sun cream. She smoothed back her hair and picked up her bottle of sun lotion. Now was there anyone around who might want to help?

Thinking that perhaps his departure from Troia may have been a tad hasty, Edward had to admit that he enjoyed venturing along the coastline of Costa Faguita. It was so sunny here, much sunnier than it had been within Troia or Narshe. The climate was warm enough to venture outside without a cloak or hat, while breezy enough to allow the body to cool. Smiling silently to himself as he walked along the beach, Edward merely listened to the rolling of the ocean waves nearby.

Mjrn, seeing Edward ahead, perked up and began to angle in his direction. She hadn't been truly able to speak with him since Narshe. Her awakening at the Iifa Tree had left her too disoriented for real conversation, but she worried that he still blamed himself for what happened. Well, time to find out.

She approached and spoke up over the sound of the waves, so that she wouldn't startle him too much were he lost in thought. "Edward...."

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
It honestly didn't take long for Edward to spot the long-eared girl, but once he did she was welcomed with a grand smile. "Mjrn! You're here!" It was good to see her alive again, especially after all the horrors they faced within Narshe. It was a miracle to see the poor woman alive, just a true miracle that he hoped would never need to be performed again. Losing Mjrn during the havoc hurt not only Edward who was her newest friend, but Penelo as well. News of the Viera's death shocked everyone, even other friends that Edward met weeks ago.

"I trust all is well, Mjrn. Life upon the coast certainly seems more cheery than life within the icy slopes of Narshe." The bard honestly detests that kingdom, but not only for the cold. Edward wasn't very fond of its ruler, not fond at all of the young man who rules there. He wasn't sure if there were any reason for him to dislike Sir Larsa, but something about the man honestly irked him.

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
To that assessment, Mjrn readily nodded even as she smiled at him. "I am quite glad to escape such a frigid environment, though I hope Narshe is recovering readily from this latest hardship." While she didn't have the same distaste as Edward for its ruler, their stay had not been a pleasant one. She had no desire to return.

"And Troia? Your home is recovering, as well?" She remembered that she hadn't heard from Cecil and grows a little worried, though Edward seems cheerful enough. If tragedy had indeed fallen, doubtless his demeanor would be different.

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 07:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do believe that Narshe and Troia both as doing quite well for themselves. I see no need to worry now that the fiends have been slain." Cecil's prolonged silence did worry him greatly, but Rosa seemed to be well from what he last knew. Perhaps it was time for the bard to speak with the regal couple, just to catch up with them.

"But what of you? Are you...are you truly well?" Cue in the nagging worry. "How did you...I, I'm sorry! I shouldn't be thinking of such morbid topics now. Narshe is behind us, is it not?" Edward forced a smile upon his face while the guilt of it all still nagged at him.

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
"Edward...." Mjrn stared at him a moment, trailing off and resting a hand on his shoulder. "I do not blame you for what happened. Please, do not blame yourself further. It is past, yes?"

She withdrew her hand. "I am...adjusting as best I am able. In truth, I am grateful for this new life. It is not an opportunity I will squander."

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Shocked by her choice of wording, Edward was led to believe that perhaps Penelo shared some words with Mjrn considering the guilt he feels. He wouldn't be surprised if the kind dancer did speak to Mjrn about this, especially considering how crestfallen he has been as of late. Silently thanking Penelo for whatever words shared between the two women, Edward smiled happily at Mjrn as he tried his best to believe her words.

"I...I am grateful to hear you say that, Mjrn. Death is something that I dislike coping with. Penelo and I both feared for the worst when the dragons attacked, but never in my days did I expect to lose someone during this awful attack. Nor did she." A sigh escaped his lips as he tried his best to explain himself. Words were failing him now, so perhaps it would be best to just quiet himself.

"Let us not dwell on this, Mjrn. All is well, isn't it?"

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
Mjrn herself assumes a guilty expression when he speaks of Penelo. She never wanted to be the cause of pain for her dearest friend, and yet it had happened regardless. She resolved not to dwell, as he suggested, and nodded, albeit hesitantly.

"Aye, indeed. I am alive once more. My friends are well. The dragons have been slain...and now, we are surrounded by warmth and sunlight. A better outcome I could scarcely imagine." Except perhaps not losing what made her Viera, but...no, trying not to dwell on that, at least not now.

The green-haired summoner was close by, dipping her feet into the cool water. Getting into the spirit of things, she was wearing much less than usual, only a green bikini. It was tempting to go for a swim but then she caught sight of Edward.

A smile formed as she approached him, though not parting from the water. She merely waded in it until she was close enough, then sent a playful splash his way. It wasn't a large one, just enough to get his attention.

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 05:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Blinking his eyes once he felt water splash upon him, Edward glanced over towards the green haired summoner nearby. "Rydia!" Oh, he was certainly glad to see her, but what in the world is she wearing!? Honestly, that homely ninja is going be all over Rydia today.

"Trying to gain a tan are you?" He asked while quietly inspecting Rydia for any sort of injuries. All of his companions in Troia survived the onslaught which eased his worries, but many of them were injured during the hellish scuffle. Wondering what could have possibly summoned that swarm of silver dragons, Edward decided he would investigate that matter later.

"How do you fair? You certainly seem well from my opinion."

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Rydia seemed largely recovered from her experience with the dragons. If there were any scars, they were small and fading, as Rosa and Refia's white magic had done wonders. She might still be a touch pale, but at least her bout of crying for Yuna had happened far enough in the past that telltale signs weren't apparent.

She shrugged at mention of a tan but smiled at his assessment. Good, so perhaps she stood a chance of not depressing everyone. "I managed to convince the infirmary that keeping me there would be a waste of space that could be put to better use. Besides, they seemed to agree with me that the beach was a good idea for convalescence.

I hope you don't mind that your stay in Troia was short? It's not like we can't return, but this opportunity seemed too good to pass up."

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do not mind at all, to be honest." He quickly replied with a slight smile. "The sunny climate remind me of home, and these sandy shores remind me of the desert I once admired. It's beautiful here, Rydia. I see no need for me to be anywhere else." The bard noticed how wan the summoner looked before gazing over towards the sea. Edward figured that she was still recovering from battle, so he wasn't too worried for her. A day at the beach would certainly aid the woman in her recovery more so than lingering about within the infirmary for hours on end.

"I'm grateful for this trip."

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia smiled warmly at that. "Good. I figured this would be a relaxing prelude to that upcoming wedding, too." Her smiled widened a touch at that. She was genuinely excited to see Garnet get married, at last.

Then she remembered something and perked up, turning to him. "Oh! Did you hear? Kain and I found a baby storm dragon during that last day of the dragon fighting. He's adopting her, more or less."

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"The wedding?" He paused to think. "Ah, yes! The wedding of the Alexandrian Queen, correct? I do remember receiving an invitation not too long ago." He honestly had no idea who the Queen of Alexandria was, but it would be rude of him to ignore the elegantly written invite. "I do hope she wouldn't mind if I brought along a guest. I am sure Penelo would love to come to the royal wedding." He also hoped that Cecil and Rosa would come to the wedding as well, especially since the two need ideas for their own future wedding.

Smiling for a moment longer, Edward's smile actually dropped once Rydia mentioned Kain adopting anything but angst. "He adopted a dragon?" Oh, dear. This doesn't sound good at all.

"How nice of him, I hope he'll treat it kindly."

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia saw that reaction and shakes her head with a smile. "He's giving her the very best of care. You wouldn't think he would be such a good caretaker, but I guess being a dragoon does give him some affinity after all."

She crosses her arms, that smile widening a bit. "Penelo, eh? So things are going well between you?" Ever since their discussion at Eiko's party, she had been a bit curious but hadn't pressured since then for details. He was overdue.

[identity profile] danceawaypain.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
On dainty little tiptoed steps, Penelo crept up behind Edward. Once she was near, she tucked her arms around his arm and flashed a warm smile at him. "Was this worth the trip?" She knew that he'd only just returned to Troia, and a part of her felt selfish for wanting him along, but she knew they were to meet Mjrn, and somehow leaving Edward behind didn't seem right.

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-14 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Glancing down at Penelo with a smile of his own, Edward merely nodded his head. "Indeed, it was. I have longed for warmer climate ever since I arrived in this world. Figaro was a nice reprieve from Troia, but this...this is paradise to me." After meeting Mjrn a little while earlier, the bard certainly seemed to be quite cheerful again. Maybe all he needed was some sunshine and some relaxation here to ease the worries he had.

[identity profile] danceawaypain.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm glad. And it's good to see you smiling again." Somehow the world just didn't seem right when Edward was gloomy. Not that the man didn't have every right to feel that way, given the circumstances in his life. Yet seeing him happy was enough to lift her spirits, even in the darkest of times. Her gaze went out to the waters again. "This reminds me so much of the first time I saw the ocean. It still impresses me."

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Edward nearly turned rosy around his cheeks once she mentioned how much of joy it was to see his smile. He hoped he didn't worry Penelo too much during his days of endless gloom, but after what happened in Narshe; the bard hasn't felt cheery for days. However, it would seem that such unhappy days have passed along with that awful storm of raging beasts.

"Isn't it amazing? A sea endless blue, a perfect image of the skies above that captures the shimmer of the sun's translucent rays." How he simply adores the beach. Only at the beach is where one can view the reflection of the heavens above upon a surface of blue.

"This is nature's mirror."

[identity profile] danceawaypain.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
Penelo's smile spread as she listened to Edward. There truly was something magical and wonderful about having a bard nearby, and despite Vaan griping about the parade of performers clogging up his airship, she for one appreciated all that Edward had to offer. He was kind and gentle, and so eloquent! "You really have a way with words. It's so poetic."

Her dainty hands slipped down his arm to catch his hand. "Walk with me?"

[identity profile] melodiesoflute.livejournal.com 2010-05-15 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Edward only chuckled at her compliment. "I do try." It felt so good to speak with someone who understands him, especially since this someone is a fellow performer. Bards and dancers are thespians by trade despite their stage being the streets of various towns and cities. Penelo understands and appreciates his love of not only music, but of the arts in general. If had said something like that to Cecil or the others, the profound message of his words would have been lost easily.

"With pleasure, Penelo." Edward said as he wrapped his fingers around her small hand. Walking along the sandy shore with the lovely girl in tow, the Prince of Damcyan finally realized how wonderful peace felt.

Unaware of the little menace to society that lurked behind him, Edward let out a shrill shriek once her fingers descended upon his side. It shouldn't be any surprise that the bard is a tad ticklish, but the way he yelled it was as if someone pressed hot coal to his feet. "S-stop! No, no, no! STOP!" Between all his protests was his cheerful chuckles as he tried his best to escape from his assailant's clutches.

Laughing until he could laugh no more, Edward managed to win his freedom once he darted along the beach. "Selphie!" He should have known it was her. "Don't do that! I'm very ticklish."

"O-oh no!" Now fleeing for the sake of dignity, Edward took off like an airship in search for sanctuary amongst the friendly skies. "Selphie, stop!" Don't mind him, the bard is just being a spoil sport right now. Maybe more tickles would make Edward loosen up a bit.
