Characters: Mjrn, Ramza, Kain?
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: Indigo Dragon hunt
Location: Esto Gaza
Date: June 1804 (pre-Tidus/Yuna wedding)
Warnings: TBA

Mjrn had no more love of the Lost Continent's cold climate any more than she did when visiting Narshe. There had been little thought in her mind to return...but people in need could not be ignored. If the dragon was truly a threat, then she would aid in eliminating it. That her new partner, Ramza, might posses relevant knowledge would be a boon to them as they sought the creature. If Kain was able to join them, all the better. Hopefully soon, the people of the holy shrine would be secure from the threat.

Thus it was that the young dragoon paced at the edge of town with spear in hand, waiting for her partner to arrive. She was eager, bordering on impatient, and it was all she could do not to run off without him. Yet her demise in Narshe had cooled her head a little; there were promises made regarding her welfare, and Mjrn would do her best to keep them. She glanced up to the sun, barely past midday. He would be here soon, she hoped. In the meantime, the young Viera remained watchful, all the more so for her diminished senses.

With the fiends now dispatched, Ramza sheathed his sword. The beasts have been sent to their Maker, and now peace settles once more. Gazing at his comrades, Ramza's looked to Reis with a faint smile. "She is Reis, Mjrn." He answered on the behalf of the dragonkin. "She truly is the one I spoke of. Although, I cannot understand why she's amongst us now." Half-expecting Beowulf to be near, the swordsman glanced towards his right only to see ice and snow.

A deep sigh escaped him as he looked towards Reis again. "I am sorry, but he...he is not here."

Reis looked from the female speaking to her, to Ramza. Had there been any doubt any further doubts that she might be a mere wild dragon and not who her friend claimed her to be, that could well be settled by her response to them both. No lashing out, no angry clawed swipes, no enraged shows of breathed fire, nary a snarl. Clearly she understood all too well what was being said, even though she could not answer for herself. Rather, her response showed in her actions, for she lay on the ground, eyes dimming from disappointment as her face rested on the snow. What point in continuing on if she was to be deprived of her beloved again?

"You are expecting someone else?" Kain looked first toward the dragon with his question, but then directed his gaze toward Ramza, hoping he might shed some light on that mystery. He knew they probably ought to settle what they could do next, but perhaps it was best to focus upon one thing at a time.

He returned his eyes to Reis, fascinated as ever by any of her kind.

Feeling a pang of guilt for being the bearer of bad news, Ramza turned away from Reis once the two dragoons began to inquire for answers. He knew naught of a way to free Reis from this hideous curse without the aid of auracite, and judging from what Agrias told him, the stones don't exist here. Letting a sigh escape his lips, the troubled Beoulve answered both dragoons question.

"Her beloved, Beowulf, is a former Templar hailing from the Knight Templar Order. He is a companion of mine, someone who has yet to appear on Gaia. While I trust that he is well, I worry for those left behind." He shifted his attention from Kain and over towards Mjrn.

"As for curing her, such a stone doesn't here in this world. I speak of the zodiac stones. Only the Auracite of Cancer can cure her malady."

After weeks upon weeks of wandering lost and alone, of being chased and attacked, having others speak to her as an equal and not a monstrosity to destroy came as quite a relief. Enough so, that Reis lifted her head to look at the others, rather than continue wallowing in her disappointment. Much of what she saw and heard left her perplexed. Never had she encountered or heard of a creature with the appearance of the woman with the tall ears. Nor was she familiar with lands dubbed Gaia. It stood to reason something was indeed wrong when she did not wake outside Lesalia where she had last laid her head. How much time had passed since then? Weeks? Months?

Discussion of a cure held her attention. How could Ramza know such things? To her knowledge, no way existed to return her as she once was. Auracite? The stone they'd given him? That held her hope? Far too many questions came to mind and without a way to express them, hearing that it mattered not, Reis slumped back down onto the snow once more.

Kain frowned, also understanding all too well what it felt like to be denied the one he cared about. Although his situation was different, since he'd never deserved Rosa to begin with and never could. Ramza's other answer was also disappointing, for Reis' sake.

"You're certain this Auracite can't be obtained? How or where did you gain it before?" But Kain didn't sound too hopeful, and there was even a somewhat- for Kain- sympathetic glance spared for Reis. Still, knowing more about it would help, just to be sure. For all he knew, though, it was like the Crystals of his own world- lost to them here, but assumed to still be at home.

Reis' demeanor truly worried Ramza, especially considering he could only imagine how alone she felt now. Allowing a dejected sigh to escape him, Ramza turned his attention once the duo spoke. "I...I am not sure where the auracite could be in this realm, but..." He paused as he remembered the trials he faced in Ivalice. After being chased for days by the Inquisition, Ramza honestly held contempt for those wicked stones. He knew that the auracite possessed both the power for good and evil, but those who've wielded their power have all used the auracite for evil.

"If the stones reappear here in this realm, then I fear for Gaia itself." Ramza's words were as stern as his gaze. "The auracite, particularly the Zodiac Stones, aren't artifacts that should be taken lightly." He began. "These stones are holy relics of the Church of Gladados, prisons that house the demonic beasts residing within them. If the wielder possesses a pure heart, the stones act on the behalf of good. However, if they are wielded by those are possessed by treachery, and then the Lucavi inside of the stone shall claim them."

Taking a quick glance at Reis, Ramza frowned. "The stone of Cancer healed her because of her honest and pure thoughts. If she had been another, she would have become a fiend."

Inwardly, Kain felt a deep sense of dread at hearing that. "Those stones sound powerful... but far too dangerous." Not only that, but be knew well what would happen if he ever tried using such a thing. He'd be claimed by that evil force and turn into a monster. There was too much darkness in him for any other outcome.

Trying to conceal his fears, Kain added, "And there is no other way of curing her?"

Casting his eyes upon Kain briefly, Ramza noticed the smallest tinge of fear within the dragoon's demeanor when he mentioned the stones. In all truth, Kain's worries regarding the auracite are well-founded. Ramza knows all too well of what happens to those of greedy hearts, he knows how the power of these devils can warp a man. While he bared some immunity to the lull of the auracite because of his ancestry to Germonique, others haven't fared as lucky against them.

Truly hoping that the stones weren't here on Gaia, Ramza remembered something that Agrias told him days before. "While I know of none other way to cure her, I do think my comrade, Agrias, is searching for the stones now. If they are here, we shall find them, but if not...we need another plan." He looked to Mjrn now. "We can try the healing springs, but we need to protect Reis from other hunters."

Wondering if the, King of Figaro would object to having a dragon live amongst his people, Ramza tried to think of any idea of how they could protect Reis from harm until they found a cure. "We must talk more. I shall give word to my companions, and all five of us shall speak."

Nodding thoughtfully, Kain considered that. At least he was warned about the stones and their power, so he'd know to avoid them if he encountered them. He couldn't risk what would happen.

"That would be the best course of action, until that cure can be found. They must be informed that she's no threat to them..." Especially given recent dragon attacks. Again, Kain understood to some extent what they were going through... having Zephyr had shown him that some reacted fearfully to any dragons, even an infant.

Hoping that they could hide Reis for now, Ramza nodded in agreement to Kain and Mjrn. It would make no sense for them to linger here within the tundra any longer. "Aye, we shall make an announcement regarding her appearance but I desire that we keep her guarded." Fear makes the brightest minds into the dullest, and even if they did state that Reis wasn't a threat; some would still seek her blood.

"Let us go." Ramza said with a slight smile. "We can continue conversing within warmer settings."

Kain could understand that. Getting people to realize that not all dragons were a danger to them could be a formidable task to accomplish. People were more likely to react in fear if she were left unguarded and with no one to explain. Perhaps they could determine a suitable place for her to stay, eventually.

"Very well," Kain agreed, ready to leave with the others.
