She Wants to Rule the World

Characters: Ultimecia and anybody looking for a fight
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: The heroes have come to slay the Sorceress
Location: Plains of Lindblum
Date: September 1st, 1804
Warnings: Fighting. Pain. Possibly gore. Maybe more stuff, we'll see.

On the plains outside Lindblum, a war awaited. Another part of the war already being raged at the city - the leader of it all, the architect of this chaos, the one who desired nothing more than a world without anyone, a world to herself. A place where she could be alone, unbothered and unpersecuted.

She'd been denied that. She'd been denied Time Compression, and for now was settling for the best way to rid the world of insufferable crawling nuisances - sheer, outright massacre. The city would fall, the center of life on this world, and she would expand outward to greater distances.

Wishing they had access to someone with a Silence spell, Rydia nonetheless approached the mages, ready to fight. She wasn't about to let more death and destruction happen, not if she could at all prevent it. But given the crowd, the summoner knew she had to pace herself. She couldn't be throwing as much magic around as she wanted to, knowing there was a worse fight ahead.

So, having used one rod to cast Protect and Shell on those nearest and dearest, Rydia then withdrew another. She would summon if she must, but the Stardust Rod would be handy until then. Raising it, she brought forth Comet, the bright missiles slamming into the nearest targets.

Edge looked carefully across the battlefield, choosing his targets based upon his belief in their strength. Aiming for the back row of mages, he let loose a volley of shurikens that ripped through their ranks.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 01:17 am (UTC)(link)
The combined effect of magic and steel brought down quite a few of their targets, though the rest were now just activating the spells being cast. "Edge, watch out!" Rydia spoke just in time to duck, as a Fira spell was launched in their direction.

[identity profile] shurikenfemale.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
Cissnei slid onto the ground, Rekka in hand, narrowly dodging the same Fira spell. "I heard you needed help," she said to the two strangely dressed people, now her allies.

[identity profile] arrogant-flirt.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Edge nodded as he deftly dodged the fire. He paused from the battle but a moment to address the stranger, "We are a little outnumbered."

More pleasantries would have to wait as he whipped out his katanas swiping at the nearest of their foes.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia flashed a quick smile at their newfound ally. She didn't have so much pride as to shirk help when they were in obvious needed of it. "You heard right."

She didn't get to say more than that, though, since a mage directed Blizzara at her. Though quick and endowed with Shell, Rydia winced as she could still feel the cold bite into her. Retaliating, she sent forth Comet at them all once more.

[identity profile] shurikenfemale.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Cissnei zipped past the pair, running straight towards the next wave of mages. She flicked her wrist and Rekka went flying into a wide, low arc. Before she caught her weapon, she had managed to knee a nearby mage before diving to avoid a Thundara spell.

[identity profile] cyke.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
While Cissnei assisted with the frontal assault, Reno and Rude had gone out of their way to maneuver themselves into a flanking position so that they could take the black mage forces by surprise. Neither one of them was exactly equipped to deal with magic users, but Reno still had access to his pyramid attack which they figured would buy them some time before the mages realized that they could assist one another by breaking the energy field that it created from the outside.

As Reno shot off one pyramid after another, Rude rushed in amidst the shuriken and magical blasts coming from the front line to deal some up close and personal damage to the faceless enemy.

[identity profile] arrogant-flirt.livejournal.com 2010-09-06 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Edge grinned at the skill of another weapon flinger, but he wasn't about to be outdone. Seeing a few more mages out of the corner of his eye, he tosses two more shurikens into the fray without the slightest glance to ensure they had scored a hit.

A smug smirk on his face he readied himself for next attack.

oh it's so on like donkey kong

[identity profile] shurikenfemale.livejournal.com 2010-09-07 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Pay attention," she calls out as she runs past, deftly throwing her shuriken vertically at a mage that was preparing a spell very close to Edge. She pulls the weapon out of the sorry mage that once was and pushes forward, continuing to distract them while Reno and Rude pummeled the onslaught with their pyramid attack.

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-09-07 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia rolled her eyes at Edge's smugness, but the mages soon distract her once more. Even with the extra help, there were still plenty to go around and plenty of spells to dodge. The Summoner managed as best she can, but she cries out when a Thundara spell struck her. For a moment, she can't do anything but fall to her knees in pain, vision clouded with bright white spots.

"Edge, cover me!" She concentrated, needing a moment to summon....

[identity profile] arrogant-flirt.livejournal.com 2010-09-07 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've got it!" He yelled.

Showing off would have to wait.

While normally covering was part of Cecil's repitoire, Edge wasted no time turning an eye towards Rydia. Spying her about to get smashed, he rushed to her side flinging two shurikens at the mages opposite her while slashing the two closest.

(As usual, Terra had cast Protect, Haste, Regen and Shell on anyone interested just before the battle.)

Terra yelped as the effects of the Quake spell reached her, losing her balance and tumbling to the ground. Ultimecia's attack threw her mentally as well as physically, since Terra couldn't remember her ever having that spell as one of Chaos' warriors. With a sinking feeling, the young woman realized that she wasn't as prepared for this fight as she had thought.

Leaping into the air the moment she got a chance, Terra then transformed. This was no time to feel self-conscious and she knew she had to attack before Celes (sensibly) activated Runic. Concentrating, she then cast Dispel and Holy, sending three balls of light twice in quick succession.

The Quake had startled Cloud almost as much as Terra. Ultimecia hadn't had this ability in the Void! Dragging himself to his feet, he ran drawing First Tsurugi to take swings for Ultimecia, thankful that everyone had managed to get through the Black Mages, though he had a rather unpleasant scorch mark over his left arm.

Seeing Terra transform, Cloud smirked faintly, watching her magic and dodging it to keep himself from being hit by it too, or by the attacks of anyone else. They were just going to have to bring her down with the force of everyone.

Quake was unfortunately one of the few spells Runic didn't absorb, so Celes was forced to deal with the consequences of that spell. She'd made sure to give as many people as possible a briefing on her special ability before they went in. Magic absorption. It meant any spell cast at her while the ability was active would be absorbed, healing or damaging. It didn't matter. As long as they gave her enough time before casting healing spells to be sure Runic wouldn't be active at the wrong time, she didn't care keeping an eye on it.

She'd already been hurt a little by the mages, though she'd had a field day showing them why it was important not to mess with a Magitek Knight. And now she was aiming for the Sorceress herself, trying to get around to the side opposite Cloud if possible. If they could force Ultimecia to split her attention, all the better.

"There is no try!" she yelled at the idiot woman. "We will bring you down!"

Squall, on the other hand, wasn't surprised in the least to find Ultimecia casting Quake. It was certainly annoying and inconvenient, but not actually surprising. She'd always been a Sorceress, and that meant magic.

And inconvenience, but that was only to be expected, as he draw Lionheart and followed Cloud on in to make his own mark on the Sorceress, dodging Terra's spells as he went. If Ultimecia was here, he'd fight her - that's all there was to it.

Stunned as she always was by the beauty of Terra's esper form, Relm shook herself out of her stupor. Her ink brush dashed across her open sketchbook, capturing the sorceress' essence in black ink and magic older than black and white. Even as the ground tossed her through the air she kept painting until Ultemecia's hand reached out from the page, grasping at air before aiming itself it its inspiration and casting flare.

As it did, the ground tossed the small artist into the air. Her concentration broken, the hand dissolved back into ink and splattered across the ground. She tubled back to the floor and stumbled up again, scowling.

Whatever she was doing on the field, Celes was also keeping an eye on Relm, making sure to protect the girl as much as she could while she came in to slice at the Sorceress, shield held high.

[identity profile] heavenslament.livejournal.com 2010-09-03 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Terra was likewise focused on protecting Relm, remaining at a distance with the girl while Celes closed in on the Sorceress. She trusted in the Regen cast to help Relm recover, though, and hovered nearby while charging up the energy for another magical attack....

Tifa started off at Cloud's side, but when the quake hit she tumbled away from him, enduring the effects of the spell until the rumbling subsided and she could get to her feet again.

She had to get close to Ultimecia. Her whole fighting style depended on it. So she chased after the others, charging in to throw a punch at the Sorceress.

[identity profile] magitekrune.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
"We don't think; we know."

But that was all Celes allowed herself to say before she was forced to dig her feet into the ground to hold herself in place. Her shield took the brunt of the wind damage, as she hid behind it and pushed back with it. Anyone behind her could also use her to block most of the wind damage.

Breathing deeper, Celes reached into herself for strength and anger, letting the cool general take over.

"Relm! Spell me!"

If they could work together on this, they might have an easier chance of landing a hit or two on her.

[identity profile] heavenslament.livejournal.com 2010-09-04 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Terra, already airborne, had nothing to hold onto. She wasn't about to let the spell toss her around, though. Quickly, she conjured a trio of small tornadoes that swirled about her, though she was careful to make sure that no one near her was caught up in tehm. As they spun about to combine into one, they managed to deflect the brunt of Ultimecia's attack.

As Celes shouted, Terra held off her elemental attacks for a moment, attempting to direct a Silence spell at Ultimecia. Who knew if it would actually take effect, but she had to try....

[identity profile] knighted-lion.livejournal.com 2010-09-05 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Again? What was with their enemies liking to use Tornado? Admittedly, it was certainly a powerful attack, but that didn't make it any easier to actually deal with in combat, and he jammed the point of his gunblade into the ground to make a crude sort of anchor.

And as soon as the winds died down, he too was charging in. The more threats there were, the more likely it would be that Ultimecia would have to pick one of them as her target.

[identity profile] heartofheaven.livejournal.com 2010-09-07 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Ultimecia's teleporting confused Tifa for a moment. Well, that was inconvenient. And then the tornado hit and she had nothing to brace herself against or to protect her. It blasted her through the air and she crashed back into the ground with a bone-cracking thud.

Tifa pulled herself up with a groan, nursing her arm. It felt like she'd dislocated something.

ooc!!!

Hey guys! Selphie is here but she'll be dipping and darting through those black mages. Anybody in those threads is free to notice her but I'm handwaving this. x.x;;
