The decision to actually attend the ball had surprised Jote herself, but she'd taken special care not to inform anyone what she was planning. Curiosity had struck her in a way and despite the pain of the Hume voices, the Viera elder picked her way around the crowd. A trip to the dressmakers had given her a black and white dress, complete with sash (http://www.onlygowns.com/dresses/strapless-satin-embroidered-prom-gown-36.asp), which she held between her fingers every so often, as though to comfort herself with.
Jote was not used to being out of place and this was about as far past her comfort zone as she had ever been.
