Someone didn't need to die, for them to be missed. Dagger knew this first hand. She saw that look in Eiko's eyes, and recognized it far too keenly; she'd seen it in the mirror too many times for her tastes.

Her hand lifted from the table top, and reached to run over Eiko's hair. Dagger turned her smile up just a little, from commiseration, to understanding.
