Characters: Edgar Figaro (
rebelroyale), Selphie Tilmitt (
selphiekins); open if anyone wants to bump into them, I suppose :o
Progress: Incomplete
Summary: Sparkly king + sparkly fangirl = very sparkly tour around Lindblum.
Location: Lindblum, outside the Grand Castle
Date: ....January 24, I guess?
Warnings: None so far
Being who he was, King Edgar of Figaro liked to think of himself as someone not easily impressed. The archetype of the jaded royal was a well-worn and often wearying cliché, but when it came to all things unusual and spectacular, the truth was there were few wonders left back home that Edgar hadn't already seen. The urban sprawl of Vector and Jidoor's famed architecture; the curve of the world's surface seen from the deck of its only airship; the storm-wrought gate into the Esper World -- Edgar had quite a few rare experiences and fantastic places under his belt by this point.
But Lindblum's Grand Castle, he thought, could easily put several of them to shame.
It towered over him even where he stood outside the general entrance, already some height above the city proper. His own Figaro Castle was no slouch for size or impressiveness -- a monument of high technology the size of a small town in itself, sustaining close to three thousand residents in the midst of a vast and unforgiving desert -- but the Grand Castle easily rivaled it in size. In fact, if he was painfully honest with himself, well... undoubtedly it extended further out the other side, beyond where he could see easily; what with all the airship-building facilities contained here, it was quite possible the place was much bigger than Figaro Castle.
For some reason this was slightly vexing.
"...ah well, I guess it's not a contest, right?" he murmured to himself with a wry grin (thus earning an odd look from one of the guards standing nearby).
But he made a mental note to himself nevertheless: Look into expanding the castle premises when you get home.
...If he got home, anyway. But now was no time for thoughts like that. After all, he was due to meet a lovely, enthusiastic, and undoubtedly stunning young lady for a day on the town -- if there was ever a day to trade the frowny king face for the suave and dashing one, it was today!
With that thought in mind, he glanced down at himself for a moment as he continued to stand there waiting, adjusting his sash and smoothing out his tunic a little. Edgar never worried much about his looks -- actually, he'd always thought he was fairly dashing even with extreme bedhead -- but when meeting someone new for the first time, it was nice to present a tidy and well-groomed appearance. He wouldn't want Selphie to think she wasn't even important enough to primp for a little.
...he still wasn't entirely sure about the flower, though.
Maybe it's a little much after all? he wondered with a mental sigh, glancing down toward the single long-stemmed yellow rose in his hand, carefully wrapped in delicate paper. He wasn't sure about the social mores regarding such things in this world, let alone whatever place Selphie came from, but it just seemed a shame to have so much time to prepare and then not pamper the lady at least a little. It wasn't like this was a date or anything, so... surely she'd understand?
And now that he was worrying about it, he felt like he had a faint case of the butterflies. Edgar had to laugh at himself, just a little.
You'd think I was 14 and standing outside Guin's door.
But maybe there was reason to be... not nervous. Alert, he would say. Alert. Just a little bit. After all, he wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea. It would be very... unfortunate, if he managed to chase off one of the few people here who genuinely seemed interested in being friends.
Ah, Sabin. As always, your big brother's a piece of work.
He had to laugh at himself again. So he did. And then he shook his head, grinned a little ruefully, and went back to watching the front gate.
((OH MY GOD I'm sorry for the tl;dr, I just... he wouldn't. stop. talking >.>;;;;; I swear I usually don't tag like this, I'll try not to be so ridiculous in subsequent posts XD;))
