Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

"Apparently not. I guess somehow I was needed here," she replied, smiling warmly. "How have you been?"

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
There was a moment's hesitation, but she nodded. "Aye. It is quite the display, is it not? There are so many in attendance...a ocean of people, as it were." A small, wry smile formed. "It is easy to become adrift in it, yet I cannot mind, for this is a welcome surprise."

Re: [Prior to Angeal Rescuing Genesis]

Genesis' unfocused gaze drifted in her direction, a brow raising. He heard no one else around him at the table so he presumed it safe to nod and incline his head. "No, I don't believe it is."

He just hoped the woman didn't ask him to dance.

"Yes, he does," Genesis smirked, giving Angeal's hand a pat. He knew the man had been joking, but it only made the situation more amusing when the joke had actually been true. "Yes, he was the man who dragged me here, though he was trying to be helpful. He was merely a bit overzealous."

And let's not mention he was acting like a child. "His bodyguard, on the other hand, merely wanted to watch me. I doubt he will not be fond that I am heading where I wanted to be all night." He inclined his head toward Angeal. "And thus, brings us to what I had originally planned that was so thwarted by this party. You and I need to talk, my friend. Though it seems I have been saved from revealing my blindness in person. I wonder, however, if you know much else? There are those from our world who love to give the details before one is really ready to hear them."

After earlier, and the fiasco that had occured, Noah was certain he needed to explain things to Quistis. She had asked him something and he hadn't been able thanks to those meddling kids, even if Larsa and Selphie were the same age, or there abouts, as Quistis. She was just that bit more adult than they were which made him understand his attraction to her. She was intelligent, which helped as well.

Striding through the ballroom, Gabranth caught sight of his date and swiped hold of her hand, being brash enough to simply lead her off towards one of the balconies in the building. It was rude of him to just drag her away like that, but he needed to. He kept silent until they were outside, closing the balcony doors behind them.

"Quistis... my apologies... but I needed to speak with you after... earlier."

Had Penelo realized the precise information that Edward was asking after, she would have had the good grace to blush. Assuming that he was only remarking on her being alone at that moment, she shook her head, displacing some of her unbound hair to fall around her shoulders. "Oh no, I have friends here with me, although they're off in the crowds. And my partner's here too, although I'm not really sure where he's gotten himself to. Trouble, no doubt. We got separated a while ago."

Just for good measure, she scanned the crowd, and on not finding the sky pirate anywhere, shrugged once. "Left behind again. I'm used to it. As long as Vaan's not getting himself thrown in a dungeon, he'll be fine. Would you care to tell me more about the musicians? I'm very interested."

[identity profile] alittlebitesper.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
"No, I haven't. I mean, it seems like some people remember different things when they arrive but there's never been...two." She would've laughed if it wasn't Edgar. She liked Edgar.

"Is it wrong that part of me hopes one of them fades away and solves the problem?"

[identity profile] alittlebitesper.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 04:57 am (UTC)(link)
"T-thank you," she remembered that dance, it had been awkward but fun. But then she shook her head at him.

"I am just here on my own. Well, I made Celes come with me but..." She shrugged.

That made a little more sense. Fulfilling an unavoidable obligation was usually a miserable experience, even for the most optimistic of souls. "Well, if you have to be here, why not enjoy yourself to make the time pass faster?" With the smallest cant of her head and a smile that twinkled in her eyes, she extended her hand and a gentle invitation, "Dance with me?"

Well. If only Genesis could see. He would have had a laugh at the face Angeal was pulling now, one of disbelief and concern. It wasn't that he disliked the overly large houses, actually he thought they were nice if you could afford them, but he never felt the need to be in one for extended periods of time. That is, he never felt he deserved to be in one. He certainly wasn't the type, unlike Genesis. But its a confident in tone reply with a small chuckle. "As long as we can get in."

Someone wanted to just watch him? Because he was blind? That rubbed him the wrong way and immediately Angeal started to dislike a man he had never met. It didn't look like he would be letting the redhead out of his sight for awhile now. "Perhaps this is a conversation best discussed in private?" They were still at the party and, well, Angeal didn't wanted to get into specifics while others were around. He placed a hand on Genesis' back and turned towards the door. "This way,"

Mjrn ignored the champagne long enough to return the favor...and maybe linger close for a brief moment before remembering propriety. That suggestion prompted a smile tinged with amusement. "An idea worth consideration...though not without a dance or two." And the chance to see some friends, but at the moment, she was purely focused on him.

Quistis had just finished conversing with an acquaintance when she felt someone snatch her hand from behind before tugging her away without a word. She was immediately alarmed by the sudden gesture-- her head whipped around to look at whoever had the audacity to drag her off, her arm moving to retrieve her hand-- but her glare quickly softened when she noticed it was just Noah. So she allowed him to lead her off, taking a brief moment to put down the flute of champagne she had been sipping on a table they passed by.

Once they had arrived at the balcony, Quistis watched with questioning eyes as Noah made to close the doors, isolating them from the rest of the party. She was just about to inquire what this was all about, but his words answered her unasked question. With a small smile, she took a much more relaxed stance, leaning back slightly against the stone railing as she folded her hands over her lap.

"I have to apologize again for Selphie's behavior-- that was extremely unprofessional of her. I'm sorry if she made you feel uncomfortable."

At least she's cute?

[identity profile] lastsummoner.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
"You should meet Father then, and Mother! And dance with pretty girls." That last fact was stated with a firm nod. "There's plenty of them around. Pick one." Part of the point of her party was so that everyone could mingle and he shouldn't have to stand alone just because his friends weren't here yet. "Can I meet your friends when they get here?"

[identity profile] dragoon-rising.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:22 am (UTC)(link)
"I did look around." Which had amounted to very quickly moving through the crowd in order to avoid most eye contact. It had seemed like enough effort to him, however...

As soon as Rydia made that glance toward the dance floor, Kain had a creeping suspicion what was coming next. He frowned more and wondered if there were any possible chance of escape at the last minute. Perhaps a distraction, like something being set on fire. But no maniacs seemed to have attended tonight's event, to Kain's dismay.

"...Do I really have a choice?"

[identity profile] empires-lapdog.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
"Nay, I should apologise for Larsa. It was highly inappropriate for an Emperor to behave like that." Sighing as he sat on the edge of the balcony, Noah rested his hands either side of himself, his gaze cast down towards the stone floor of the balcony. "My apologies, also, for dragging you away so abruptly. I just felt the need to apologise for his behaviour. We had somewhat expected it from Selphie but..." But Larsa was so out of the blue.

Finally lifting his gaze, he tilted his head slightly. "Would you still like an answer to your question earlier this evening, Quistis?"

He knew that telling someone your name was supposed to be a trivial thing, but it was important to him. 'Noah fon Ronsenburg' was his true self and for all his coldness and pure brutality, he still held onto a shred of his humanity and wanted to let it expand now he'd let go of his bitterness.

Genesis followed Angeal, his staff letting him know if there were any obstacles in his way. "Yes, I suppose it is. Perhaps you would like to take in the sights before going to the mansion? Or would you rather we go straight there? I have... much to discuss with you."

A whole lot.

[identity profile] herownhero.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
She shook her head at Gabranth's words, dismissing his apology for Larsa's behavior. "Don't worry about it, Gab-- Noah." It would take a bit of time for her to adjust to his real name. "Honestly, I was glad to see Larsa in such a mood. I'm sure the past month has been hard on him." She had a feeling the death of a brother was not something to easily cope with.

Quistis gave him a small nod, answering his question with the simple gesture. "Yes-- I am a bit curious as to your choice to be regarded as 'Gabranth' to most of the world. That is, if you wish to tell me." She added the latter statement quickly, not wanting to pressure him into telling her something he didn't want to.

[identity profile] recites-always.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
"You could have always called me," Genesis chuckled lightly. "Though, I wonder why you would most of the time. I appreciate it, however."

He really sort of did. It was a nice change to all the frustration he was feeling lately. He knew Ondore meant well, too. But... a party was not a good way to go about it.

[identity profile] sandrubies.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
"That they do," Cecil agreed, smiling. Daring the move, he leaned down to rest his forehead against her for a moment. "I'm enjoying it more now that I have found you."

He straightened and held out his arm for her to take. It was time for a dance.

[identity profile] empires-lapdog.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
"It has been difficult for him, but he has behaved with grace and dignity. Up until tonight," he murmured, sighing as he leaned back against the wall of the castle, still seated on the balcony railing. He was tired after tonight and while being with her had been a great chance to relax and feel like a normal man rather than a Solidor Lapdog, even if Larsa didn't treat him badly, he was ready to just go home now. Narshe was a lot more comfortable than he'd realised.

Nodding slightly, Gabranth rested his hands on his lap, his gaze wandering out to the dark sky. "Gabranth was my mother's maiden name; I believe I told you that part." A small sigh escaped him but he tried not to let his discomfort show. "When I was just a few years younger than you, my fatherland, Landis, was invaded by the Archadian Empire and destroyed. At that time, my mother was dying from illness. With no home left in Landis, we returned to my motherland; Archadia." When he thought about it, he would've easily fled to Dalmasca with Basch if their mother hadn't been sick.

"I was left to care for her while Basch deserted us in favour of Dalmasca. I wished for no ties to him, thus I chose to call myself Noah Gabranth." He'd honestly hated Basch for leaving them, leaving him to deal with their dying mother. It was spiteful and selfish of his twin. "Shortly there after I enlisted in the Imperial Army, and rose in the ranks, eventually shedding even the name Noah, once my mother had passed, wishing to honour her with my name at the very least. Thus I became Judge Magister Gabranth. A feared and cruel man; one of the Empire's finest hounds. Naught but a beast."

[identity profile] madeofhonour.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd rather we be sitting as we talked." Angeal said a few polite 'excuse us' here and there for people to move out of the way so Genesis wouldn't have to be weaving between them. And soon enough, they were outside in the night air.

"I'd like to see the sights but I would rather see them in the light. Maybe a bit later once I've settled." And when Genesis could see again. Angeal would find a way to cure this ailment one way or another, unless it decided to go away on its own. "There's a few flights of stairs." He went down the first few steps and held his hands out for Genesis as he stood in front of him.

[identity profile] empires-lapdog.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Whyever would I wish you to leave, hm?" His tone was flat and Gabranth felt his face deadpan at the teenage Emperor. Oooh, if he could just give the young lad a good smack for his cheek at times... but that was a very bad thought and Noah took a slow breath to cool his temper. But if he could just smack him-- no. Just no.

Clearing his throat, he glanced around the room. "'Tis a lively evening. Perhaps I shall find a reason to converse with the Marquis, or even the Lady Ashelia." Anything to get away from this hell.

[identity profile] recites-always.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Genesis used the staff to figure out exactly when the stairs started before taking Angeal's hands and gripping them softly as they made their way down. This was quite embarrassing but much more preferable than falling down the flights of stairs. "Alright. Then touring will come later."

[identity profile] dragoon-rising.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:05 am (UTC)(link)
"Well... I suppose I'll have to endure it now that I'm here." Kain's expression even lightened a little as he half-smirked at that.

But it was difficult for Kain not to dwell on the past, even at a time like this where everyone should be enjoying themselves. Perhaps because the others all seemed to enjoy themselves with such ease... where for him it didn't happen as readily. Too many negative emotions got in the way.

But he followed along after Cecil, anyway, at least willing to make some effort.

[identity profile] dragoon-rising.livejournal.com 2010-03-21 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
There was also a lot of guilt involved in the obligation of his, but Kain again didn't want to get too far into discussing it. He looked at her uncertainly at her suggestion. Not once had it occurred to him to try and make this a pleasant experience. Perhaps because he didn't think he was entitled to that.

Still... Dancing. That idea definitely hadn't been on Kain's mind at all when he'd come here. He glanced at her warily. He didn't think it would be appropriate to refuse her, as much as he was uncertain about this. "...If... you're sure..."
