Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

"He should," Terra hadn't asked him quite yet what he thought of all this. Part of her was afraid Sabin wouldn't know and then where would they be?

"I am sure we will figure it out. But...not tonight." A faint little smile. "Are you here with anyone tonight?"

[identity profile] alittlebitesper.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"Hey! I-" Terra made a grab for her drink but Sabin was already tugging her away from it, and she sighed and fell into step next to him. "I haven't had nearly as much to drink as some of the people here..." She said softly, sounding slightly annoyed. Terra was a bit of a lightweight, but she'd never actually gotten drunk, so she could be trusted, right?

"Well...something to eat would be lovely, yes." Besides, someone would pass by with something else to drink while she was eating, more than likely. "I was half expecting to find you by the food, actually." A little teasing smile was offered up to him.

[identity profile] alittlebitesper.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I would think one of them would have to be, but we haven't figured out which, yet," Terra said this softly, her words a bit stuttered. She was worried that not being able to tell the difference made her a bad friend, in some way. Surely everyone else could tell? But none of them had told her yet, so maybe not...

She made a startled noise when he tugged her away from another pair of dancers, and offered him a reassuring smile. "Maiden Sari was lovely. And please relax, Cloud? This...this is supposed to be fun, right?"

[identity profile] alittlebitesper.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Terra just nodded her head, a little grin tugging at the corner of her lips. "Yes. I don't think I really need to, they seem to be very..." She paused, searching for the correct word. "Distracted by each other, sometimes. But they are very stubborn." Terra wanted her friends to be happy, damn it.

The offer of a date made her frown, though, and she tilted her head a tad as she looked up at him. "But you are Selphie's date. No one should have to share a date..."

He loves me so much!

He could hope.

He would be wrong.

"Oh!" Refia's hands flew up to cover her mouth; indeed, now that she got a better look, it was obvious that it wasn't her unofficial brother. Ingus was tall, but not quite that tall, and his hair certainly wasn't that long. Also, his voice was much too deep. The dragon armor had fooled her for a moment there, as she'd fully expected Ingus to muscle his way into armor for the event, but not anyone else to as well. "I'm sorry! A friend of mine is a dragoon, and I thought you were him for a moment..."

An easy enough mistake to make, Kain would have to agree. But Refia didn't go away after that.

"What's your name, then?"

Once she saw someone approach, Aerith straightened a little in her posture in order to look somewhat proper despite her fatigue. She didn't want anyone to think of her as a slouch or anything. "Oh? Well, yes. That's me." She answered with a gentle smile. Taking Zidane's hand in her's, she gave it a firm shake.

"Nice to meet you, Zidane, but how did you know of my name?" Someone must have told him about her, probably Delita.

Celes frowned at that news and turned it over in her head. "Hn, I would think that's the real Edgar, if we are speaking of impostors." She half-hoped they were, but that left the questions of who and why and she wasn't entirely sure she wanted to find out.

"Edgar knows the most about Figaro and he could tell you better than anyone its secrets." She paused for a moment and examined Rasler critically. "Did you meet with him in person or speak over the Sky Phones?"

[identity profile] smallmage.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
"Wonderful! I keep learning a lot, every day. I'd never even heard of this before Gaia, but it's interesting and never the same from day to day." She was finally perfectly happy with her job - not that Refia would know that, but she'd had issues with just being a blacksmith.

World-traveling was certainly a hell of a way to find a solution, though.

"Wade even lets me go away sometimes - not for long, but a day or two is fine with him. He's a very good master."

[identity profile] tantalus-born.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
He dropped his hand into his lap after the shake, still grinning at her. "My bro Blank told me, actually. I saw you two dancing earlier. You looked like you were having a lot of fun."

His grin got a bit wider. "I know he was having fun, anyway. I think the words he used were 'She's very pretty and very smart.' Something like that, anyway."

[identity profile] smallmage.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Woman, actually. Life was funny that way.

"Yes, it's using a small amount of magic to combine certain items to make a more powerful one, with certain effects. You can make magic stronger, or your strength, or even better armor. It takes a lot of trial and error, though, and sometimes you're not sure what will come out. Not every combination works, sadly. Wade learned to make ammunition for those... gun-things not too long ago, but he hasn't taught me that yet."

There was a little chemistry involved, and some alchemy - really more alchemy.

[identity profile] smallmage.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
"But she looked so cute on the Sky Phone!" If there was one thing Refia could be guaranteed to be girly about, it was animals. Usually - no toads, please. And Chit's feathers looked very soft and pretty, almost like a pillow. "I'm sure she's not dangerous. I'd like to meet her.

"Oh, I'm fine! Just training and learning more at the shop - my life's not as exciting as some of the ones we hear about anymore."

/drive-by ninja tag!

[identity profile] lastsummoner.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
From all appearances, a game of tag had broken out amongst the children at the party, or so one could assume from the sudden chaos that erupted as tiny bodies rushed about, screaming and laughing. It was nearly impossible to make out who was 'It' but that didn't matter much to the munchkins. The birthday girl herself was among the players and came running by, crashed into Marquis Ondore, then continued on her way, calling out behind her, "Oops! Sorry!!"

[identity profile] lionsguard.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
While Mustadio and Besrudio would surely have balked and spluttered at Rikku's description of Goug, Agrias herself found it to be highly accurate. To the point that she did, in fact, laugh at the girl's description of the city despite being somewhat troubled at her claim that Goug existed upon Gaia.

"That does indeed sound like the Clockwork City of Goug," she said upon regaining her composure. "'They say the ruins of a lost civilization lie buried beneath the streets of Goug, the Clockwork City. Relics from the age of Saint Ajora, when airships numerous beyond counting filled the skies, and men of iron walked city streets. But the art of crafting such things was lost...'"

She paused in recounting the words she had spoken to Ramza and the party regarding the city. The latter, those she did not speak, she scarcely could now due to her enlightenment regarding certain technological wonders.

"My good friend Mustadio calls Goug home, as does his father, Besrudio Bunansa," the lady knight paused again, the bright smile that had transformed her previously neutral expression as she had issued her recount faltering. "At least, they do in Ivalice..."

[identity profile] smallmage.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
There was a small hint of a blush on her face after the compliment, which she brushed away. "I wouldn't have missed Eiko's birthday for anything, but this is definitely more formal than we had to be at home." Then again, usually the bad non-royals were trying to kill them, so living in their battle clothes was only smart. "But it's a lovely party! Eiko looks adorable and there's so many people here to look at."

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
There was a soft chuckle at that. "Formal wear doesn't agree with you? I can't fault you there. If I attempted to wear some of these Gaian fashions...." She shook her head. No thank you. "Well, at least it's only for a little while? And not everyone here is nobility, so you might not be as judged as you think."

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia nodded with a light shrug. "It gives people the chance to gather again. Hopefully this will end better than Alexandria's ball." Ugh, why did she have to think about that night. "You come here from Figaro, right? How is it there?"

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
Rydia nods, remembering to take a look around for him at that point. "Oh, yes. His name is Edge and he's a friend from home. We got separated, but I'm sure I'll find him again soon. What about you, are you here with anyone?"

[identity profile] eidolon-soul.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"I...suppose...." Rydia looked thoughtful, even though she wasn't sure how quickly she would be able to act on Yuna's advice. She watched the dancers move in time to the music for a moment in silence, then turned to Yuna. "You should dance."

[identity profile] lastsummoner.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
All around the ballroom, children were racing around in every direction, screaming and shrieking as they avoided an unidentifiable 'It.' A couple of the black mage children went whisking by, giggling like fiends, and fast on their heels came Eiko herself, pushing people out of the way and bellowing, "Move it! Lemme through!" Only after she'd given Refia a good nudge out of her path of pursuit and she was well on her way after the children, she called out, "Sorry, Refia!"

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
Mjrn nodded politely and then paused to consider Ellone's suggestion. "It is possible. I listen to it often, for any relevant news. I do not recall speaking to you directly, however. Are you a Sky Person?"

Ninja!Children Tag!

[identity profile] tinymakoaddict.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
As Ashe and Rassler had their lovely little romantic moment, suddenly a tiny blue and yellow blur would collide with the back of Rassler's legs, bouncing off quite easily without actually knocking the man over.

"Oh! Pardon me!" It appeared to be one of the little black mage children, who was seemingly involved in the large game of tag that had broken out amongst the Birthday Girl and her friends. He hoped to his feet and adjusted his hat, and then gave them a wave and took off.

A moment later Shelke appeared from the crowd, seemingly chasing after the mage child. Her blue eyes were sparkling, and there was even the faintest hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. "He is faster than I realized." She explained in that calm voice of hers to the two startled dancers before she continued after the little kid.

[identity profile] dewdrop-pebbles.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
That was answered with a polite nod. "I am Mjrn. It is a pleasure to meet you directly, instead of only over Mooglenet. And I suppose it is not accurate to say that you are 'new' any longer. How are you settling in Gaia?"

[identity profile] arrogant-flirt.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
While Edge was as nimble as any ninja, his skill lay with his fingers rather than his feet. He had always enjoyed the simpler dances as they allowed his gaze to linger where he wished. He moved through the steps, fixated upon her from the flowing of her dress to the waving of her hair.

[identity profile] pinkgospel.livejournal.com 2010-03-22 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"W-what?" Quickly into a shade of reds and corals, Aerith giggled softly once she realized what this was all about. This guy was acting as Blank's 'wing man', the guy who's normally at the party to make his best friend look good to the ladies. While she never considered herself to be the kind of gal anyone would really set their eyes upon, Aerith felt rather flattered to be apart of this little game.

"Oh, did he?" She replied with such a grand smile. "Then he should’ve said that to me while we danced. I never had so much fun!"
