Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects. 

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

"Rydia!" Eiko squealed as her summoner friend approached. Forgetting everything Mother had coached her on regarding propriety and acting more mature, she flung her arms around Rydia. In her excitement for a greeting hug, her little tiara got bumped and scooted at an odd angle on her head, and her dress got rumpled upwards as well.

"You look amazing! I love your dress! I want one just like it now!" She full well meant to get one and even grabbed a moogle to go tell her Father exactly that. The poor creature looked horribly alarmed at the idea of the child wearing such a mature dress and only took off like a shot when Eiko stamped her foot at him.

Rydia laughed, of course returning the hug. Maturity could be saved for other people, but Eiko never needed to put up a front around her. She darted an amused look at the retreating moogle, then back to her friend. "This is a wonderful party, so far. Your parents really outdid themselves. Is your new friend settling in well?"

She couldn't help but smile at mention of the baby black chocobo she had brought from Troia, the one that Penelo had pointed out as wobbly. It was young, but she was certain the young one would thrive under Eiko's care.

"Uh huh, and my egg's going to hatch in three more weeks!" In just under a month, she was going to go from no chocobos to two! Eiko had been devoted to both, keeping vigil over the egg and now constantly checking on her baby chocobo as well. She tried so hard to smuggle him into the castle, but the guards kept catching her and making the bird go back to the stables. So she moved into the stables and insisted her tutors come to her there. "I named him Sam."

"A little name for a little bird! I think it suits him fine." Rydia smiled and shook her head, refusing more drink from a waiter. "What other presents did you receive?"

Just the topic to bring up, the presents! Eiko started showing off the ones that she managed to keep on her and away from the adults trying to whisk them away. She showed off her necklace from Denzel and jewelry from Refia and her bracelet from the Marquis. "There's more stuff," she confided, "But they keep taking it away and telling me I can open it later. And that I have to write thank you notes too." That drew a sour look to her face, since it was going to be a rather onerous task just from the quantity of gifts piling up at the far end of the room and now being carted out to another room for space purposes.

Rydia of course was properly impressed with the other gifts, glad but not surprised that the little girl had accumulated so much already. That sour look drew a sympathetic look from her. "That's going to be a lot of thank-you notes to write, but I'm sure you can do it. And hey, that's later. For now, all you have to do is enjoy yourself."
