Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

Delita was still awaiting his companion when he saw Miss Refia peering around the room. Deftly maneuvering through the ballroom, he approached her. "'Tis truly becoming of you, Refia.", he addressed as he customarily bowed.

And that just made her blush, turning extremely pink as she brought her hands up to her mouth. She wasn't used to compliments, not about her looks at least, and she hadn't done anything special with facepaint or her hair or anything like that, so she didn't think she looked as good as many others here.

"It's not, really - and you don't have to bow, Delita. How are you?"

"'Tis customary to bow before a lady in this type of affair." Noticing the blush that crept on her cheeks, he refrained from pushing her further on the topic.

"This evening finds me well. Might I gather a drink for you this evening?"

"It's a good thing I'm a synthesist and not a lady then, isn't it?" Her response was just a little tart, but it was something she didn't really know how to deal with any other way. "No, thank you. And I'm fine - it's been busy at the shop, but that's all to the good. I'm learning a lot of interesting things, and there's new challenges coming every day."

He knew better than to push any further on her being a lady, for if her family were not of rank then she could never be considered a lady. If only he were in charge, things would be different.

"To hear you speak of synthesizing would lend one to believe it simple, yet I have seen the complication of your craft. It's use has been lost in my own land."

Also, she didn't really want to be a lady. She was already one of the saviors of her world - a relatively tomboyish one at that - and being a lady was boring. They weren't allowed to do much, after all.

"We didn't have it at home either, but in theory it's really not so difficult. All it is is enhancing an object with items and magic to make it better in some way, and it's discovering which combinations work well and the methodology involved that's the difficult part."

All around the ballroom, children were racing around in every direction, screaming and shrieking as they avoided an unidentifiable 'It.' A couple of the black mage children went whisking by, giggling like fiends, and fast on their heels came Eiko herself, pushing people out of the way and bellowing, "Move it! Lemme through!" Only after she'd given Refia a good nudge out of her path of pursuit and she was well on her way after the children, she called out, "Sorry, Refia!"

"I shall have to take it upon myself to visit..."

He stopped mid sentence as he watched Refia be unceremoniously nudged out of the way by the birthday girl. He offered a hand to steady her. "'Tis a celebration unlike any I've seen the nobility ever prepare." He was surprised and amused that everything was not planned out to the last rose petal.

Apparently listening to someone was now a sport. The young white mage was knocked out of the way in the middle of Delita's answer, and she instinctively grabbed onto the first thing that presented itself to keep from falling over - Delita's arm. She peered after the blur that was Eiko when she was sure she wasn't going to fall on her face and called after her. "Just be a little more careful!"

If Delita was surprised that a "commoner" could speak to a Princess that way... well, no one else was. Refia straightened up, brushing off the skirt of her dress and giving him a smile. "Thank you. She's so energetic. And the rulers in this world aren't really ones for stiff rituals and all of that. It reminds me of home that way." After all, Eiko would listen to her, and she'd met, and been impressed with, Garnet back in Madain Sari. She and Regent Cid were conscious of their duties, but they both got stuff done and were approachable.

Delita instinctively reached out his hand to support Refia when she grabbed a hold. He did not remove his support until she called out after Eiko. Allowing a hint of a smile to cross his face, he had to agree that the little princess was energetic and wished Tietra could have matured in this environment.

"There is much here that is different from home. 'Tis difficult for me to call them by their name without title, yet I have become accustomed to the familiarity of this world."
