Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

Waiting until that boy of a companion left her side, Delita approached his friend. "Mjrn. 'Tis my pleasure to meet you here this evening." He then proceeded to give her a customary bow.

Mjrn smiled upon seeing her friend and curtseyed. "It is mine, as well." She straightened and looked him over. "And how do you fare, this night? Is it all that you may have wished?"

Sparing a light glance to his companion for the evening, "I have no complaints with my company nor the festivities. Does this evening find you well also?"

Mjrn nodded quickly enough. "Aye. All has been beyond my best expectations, thus far. It is still strange for me, but...not unwelcome. Have you arrived alone?"

He gestured over towards where Aerith and Blank were dancing, "I have escorted Miss Gainsborough to the ball. It would seem that she is enjoying herself as well.'

He was still intrigued by the Viera. "I must admit to a small bit of surprise at your lack of attendance to events such as these."

Mjrn tilted her head at that, intrigued in return. "Do you? Why so?"

Delita just looked at the Viera. "I would have thought an esteemed lady such as yourself would have garnered many an invitation to balls such as these. You say your experience is minimal, yet by the way you carry yourself you surely surprised one such as myself."

"Oh...." Mjrn was stunned at that notion. Surely, it was evident that she of all people was not in her element? If her complexion was lighter, a blush would have been evident. "You flatter me, but I am hardly an esteemed lady. I am simply an outsider, one who has but one ball before this. I do not expect it to be a regular occurance."

Delita would not push the Viera any further on the topic. "As am I, yet I must admit that the Regent has thrown a delightful celebration in honor of his daughter.":

Mjrn glanced around and nodded, a small smile forming as she took in the decor, the finery of those attending. It was not something she could handle every day, but once in a while...a departure from normal life was acceptable. "Aye, that he has. Eiko is well-cherished, that much is evident. You know her well?"

Delita shook his head. "I know little of the Princess, yet felt it necessary to attend out of respect to the Regent. Should it become appropriate, I shall properly acquaint myself with him. Until then, I shall watch him from afar."

Mjrn nods. "I have not introduced myself to him either, and I know Eiko but little. Perhaps there will be a time for introductions later, but I do not wish to interfere while many others must be clamoring for their attention."

Delita found himself often in agreement with the Viera. Besides, he would never stoop to groveling before the Regent. It appalled him the lengths that many would go to, to garner naught but a smile from him. He was simply aghast at the lady that bowed so low that her wares were hardly kept from gazing eyes.

"'Tis unfortunate that many see him as the center of attention, when he only wished to honor his daughter. I hope you do not consider me bold if I but ask for your hand in this next dance."

He really had desired to check out the entire ball and methodically wandering the fringes would not bode well with his date for the evening, nor was he fully able to concentrate on the people with the smiles captivating his attention.

Mjrn perked up at the offer and shook her head. "Not at all. I have time enough for a dance." She listened to the music begin to wind down, waiting until it had finished and the usual exchange of dancers took place. Then she stepped closer to him, prepared to head to the dance floor.

Delita offered his hand to escort her towards the dance floor. It really was his honor to spend some extra time with the Viera. He assumed his date for the evening would be unconcerned as she herself was dancing across the ballroom at the very moment.

He listened as the music started again, a small look of concern permeating his face as he found that he didn't recognize the selection. "It seems like a dance that I am unaware of. Has it familiar sound to yourself or must we carefully tread this piece?"

Mjrn was likewise unconcerned. Her own date could not be found at the moment and their was no reason she could see to forbid dancing with others. If he made someone happy by giving them enough time for a dance, all the better. She would reunite with him soon enough.

At Delita's question, she listened for a moment, then frowned doubtfully. "It does not sound familiar...but I do not mind making an attempt, if you are willing."

"I am willing." He spoke as he watched the lineup for the dance.

He chose an open spot near the edge of the group as the music began.
