Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

Well, now there was something who stood out as much as Kain did, if not more. The tall ears of a Viera were soon in sight, as Mjrn wandered the dance floor. She was clad in a revealing gown of light blue, with a high slit up the side. It was hardly typical Gaian attire, but the guards had deemed it formal enough to enter the ballroom.

The young Viera peered around, holding onto a champagne glass for something to do while searching for familiar people. Mass gatherings were not her forte either, and it showed as she fidgeted. A moment later, her eyes caught sight of dragoon armor.

Kain was debating another walk around the room just to stretch a little, when he noticed Mjrn nearby. Perhaps talking with her would provide a much-needed distraction. If anything, he was fairly sure she was feeling just as out of place here as he was. She already seemed to have noticed him, anyway.

So he stepped away from his new favorite wall and headed over to Mjrn. As usual he had a one-track mind for some things. "How is your training progressing?"

Mjrn nodded politely as Kain approached. She was about to ask him if he was enjoying the evening, then remembered how much he had enjoyed the last ball. That made her wonder why he was here at all, but his question was an effective distraction. "Greeting, Kain. I believe I have made progress. I have been training daily, at the Pinnacle Rocks. Will you be in town a while?" Not an unrelated question, by her tone.

It put Kain a little more at ease to be having this conversation. It was familiar ground to him, something which he needed in this off-putting setting. He nodded approval, glad to hear she was doing well with her training. Being a Dragoon was Serious Business, after all. Kain thought a little, and considered that it wasn't as if he had anything pressing to do after...

"I could be, for as long as needed."

That answer pleased Mjrn, who smiled in response. "I had hoped to learn more from you, should you be available. The Pinnacle Rocks seem to be an ideal location, and I would be willing to show you their location, if you have not visited." Though not right now. Sorry, Kain, but your protege wasn't offering a direct escape.

Kain knew better than to get too hopeful about an instant escape, but the thought did occur somewhere in the back of his mind. It would have been a better way to spend his time. But he wasn't about to pry Mjrn away from this if she actually wanted to be here.

"I would appreciate that, since I haven't been there yet." To Kain, the very name suggested an excellent location for dragoon training. He was surprised he hadn't come across it yet.

"Good. I hope you do not mind some extra company. My cockatrice friend cannot remain in the airship all day; the trips are as much for her sake as my own. She will not interrupt us, however." Chit had learned by now that Mjrn took her training seriously, and saved her attention-seeking moments for afterward. That wasn't to say that they wouldn't have an audience, though. Sporadically, Chit often wandered only to return to watch Mjrn anyway.

Kain had almost forgotten about that monster she'd adopted. Or... well... for some inexplicable reason it wasn't hostile, so perhaps "monster" wasn't so accurate a term. He nodded. "I'll admit, I still find it strange to keep one as a pet, but if she's truly that tame, and won't get in our way... I won't mind."
