Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

Celes blinked and took the drink. "Okay-"

And quite suddenly, Terra had disappeared. What was going on here? She stood there and waited.

Locke was busy talking shop with a fellow adventurer when Terra began dragging him through the ballroom with urgency.

"Terra? What is it? Is Kefka here?"

He was confounded by the maze of people that she herded him through almost losing his breath until he found himself face to face with Celes.

Terra seemed relieved when Locke came along easily enough, but she frowned at his question and shook her head. "No, no, it's nothing bad." She offered her a little smile and continued to urge him through the people.

Eventually they popped back out of the crowd where Celes was still standing, and Terra gave Locke a little push towards her.

"You two should go dance."

And then she reached out to rescue her wine glass from the other woman's hand, and take a sip of it, smiling almost nervously at the both of them.

Celes had not been expecting Terra to drag someone back with her, least of all Locke. She probably should have expected it, though. Somehow. Still, the sudden appearance of Locke and the subsequent demand that they go dance had the blonde blinking at her.

The wine glass was plucked from her fingers easily and that seemed to snap Celes out of her thoughts. She gave Terra a beady gaze and then offered her glass as well.

"I don't think I should try while I hold this. That's just asking for problems." And a ruined dress. Contrary to popular belief, she was starting to like this one.

Locke nervously ran his hand through his hair. He had fully intended upon asking Celes to dance later tonight when everyone wasn't looking around so intently. It would have been even better if Eiko had already been asleep, but Terra had forced his hand early. His instruction with Rydia before Garnet's celebration would have to suffice.

Holding his hand out with an awkward bow and face bright red, "May I have this dance?"

Terra wilted a little under the pointed look from Celes, but reached out to take the glass without a word, stepping out of the way as Locke asked the other to dance. Good, good. This was what she'd hoped for. Now they'd go and have fun and that was the point, right?

Celes hadn't really meant to wilt Terra at all, but well, this was a bit more than she'd expected. Still, her own cheeks flushed bright red at Locke's question and she curtsied. "I'd love that."

Placing her hand atop his, she glanced back at Terra with an unreadable expression on her face before she allowed Locke to take her off to the dance floor. She'd be back soon enough to talk to Terra a little more.

Locke flashed her an uneasy grin that pleaded innocence in this whole ordeal. Once they were far enough away from Terra, he quietly responded "I really was going to ask." He only hoped she could forgive any stomped toes. "How thick are your shoes?"

Celes didn't buy the innocence act for one minute and the look she gave him in return said as much. "They're thick enough. What do my shoes have to do with anything?"

It didn't really surprise him that Celes didn't believe him, but in this case he had really hoped to muster the courage to ask her himself. He shyly looked down to his feet, "I'm worried about stepping on your toes."

Was that all he was worried about? Celes fixed him with a confused expression. "I've had much worse step on my toes." Like that huge Cactuar for one. "Nothing can hurt as much as a suit of armor falling on a bare foot."

Locke could only swallow hard as he hastily assured her that he wouldn't knock any suits of armor on her feet. He relaxed a little when he quickly surveyed the room and didn't see too many heavy items to knock over.

He nervously looked towards the dance floor where people were doing things he didn't think possible. He hesitantly took a step that direction as his palms started to sweat.

"You ready?"
