Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

Rinoa had been looking forward to the birthday girl turning up. So when she did, Rinoa ran over at once to greet her.

"Happy birthday, Eiko!"

Rinoa liked Eiko. She somehow reminded Rinoa of herself. And she made Rinoa laugh. So it was about time that they met in person.

This was someone Eiko had been wanting to meet in person for a long time. She really liked Rinoa who was fun and nice and didn't treat her like a little kid. Eiko hated grown ups who did that. "Thanks!" she answered, bouncing with delight at finally getting to meet her mooglenet friend in person. "Are you having fun?"

"Yes!" Rinoa answered at once. "You guys sure know how to throw a great party. Did you get good presents?"

"I did!" And immediately, she started pointing out all the gifts she had that were actually on her person. "I got this from Grandpa Marquis, and this from Denzel and this one from Marlene and a black chicobo from Rydia, and a book about chocobos from Shelke and a really pretty doll that looks like a summoner from Mother. Oh! And Father's going to rebuild my village!" All the little bits of jewelry were effectively shown off, and her hair ribbon from Marlene. But the last gift was the crowning one.

Rinoa nodded and smiled at the impressive list, until she heard the last item and couldn't quite believe her ears. "What? Did you say rebuild your village?"

"Uh-huh. So all the summoners can live together again!" Not that she'd thought enough ahead to realize that not all of the summoners would be living there, as Garnet had a kingdom to run and she was going to stay in Lindblum with her parents.

"That sounds great! Where did they all go anyway?" Rinoa would probably regret asking this question. She didn't realise that Eiko and Garnet were the last of their kind in Gaia.

Rinoa's curiosity was about to be satisfied entirely. "They all died," Eiko informed her seriously. "Me and Dagger are the only ones left."

"Oh." Well, that dampened the conversation. "I'm sorry," Rinoa offered. "I didn't know. But if you and Dagger are the only ones left, who are you going to live with? Are a lot of Sky People summoners?"

Rinoa knew at least a few were. Yuna, for one.

"There's a few. But that means we can start the tribe again," Eiko replied, excited and yet serious at the same time. "But you don't have to apologize. That was five years ago. And I'm going to live with Mother and Father, at least until I'm sixteen."

Rinoa nodded. "That sounds like a plan! A place for all you summoners to be together... It's something special for you, isn't it? Having that power."

Rinoa hadn't quite grasped that so clearly before. In her world, anyone could summon if they junctioned a GF. What Eiko was... It was more like being a sorceress. Rinoa knew how lonely it was to have a power that no-one else shared.
