Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Characters: OPEN to all party guests
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

Kain wasn't always the best at social interactions, so it was no surprise that it had slipped his mind. Still, he nodded at her, also acting quite formal when he replied. "Kain Highwind."

Kain glanced at the dance floor warily. It would be so much more inviting were it a bloody battle, but dancing just made him uneasy. He had given his word though, and wouldn't go back on it.

"...Very well." Kain eyed what others were doing to get a good idea of how this should work once they were out there.

Kain shook his head to attempt reassurance. "No... that's all right, I'm willing to try this. ...As long as you still are." He'd feel rather foolish backing out after he'd already said he would. So, after another moment's hesitation, he offered her a hand.

"...That makes two of us who might be stepping on one another." Although Kain would make his best effort not to, considering it would probably hurt her foot more were he to stomp on it. He was trying to get through the night without causing someone injury. Well... as long as there weren't any attacks at this ball. He had worn the armor with good reason.

Kain led them off amid the dancers, trying to gather his usual confidence. He watched the others closely and began to try imitating the style of dancing.

Kain was feeling tense, and his motions were apparently showing that. He looked at her as she commented, but her laugh seemed to show that she was still enjoying this, despite his own failure at dancing.

"I guess I'm... slightly less accustomed to this than I'd thought." At least he wasn't stepping on her feet, though. He was still stiff and uncertain, but despite that was keeping up at least roughly to the rhythm of the dance. "You're very patient to put up with me."

At least it wasn't painful, the way his armored foot would be on hers. Kain manages to not crash into the nearest couple, miraculously, although he's thrown off for a few steps. He regains some balance and then shakes his head.

"No need to worry about it. If it hadn't been you, I would have eventually..."

It did make him less anxious about his own capabilities, anyway.

Kain shook his head. "No need." But he knew how guilt worked. So as he tried to regain some momentum, he looked at her seriously. "But I forgive you."

He couldn't help it, but to treat everything with the utmost seriousness. Kain looked at her smiling, trying to make his own expression lighten. At least a little bit. He was aware that most people were here for fun, after all.

"It's harder than it looks."

"If you would like to." Kain didn't want to make her uncomfortable, after all. Yuna seemed to have a kind, patient nature, much like Rosa... which was perhaps why he found her company overall very pleasant.

"Right. So it is." Kain hadn't quite been paying attention when Yuna pointed that out to him. He hesitated a moment, but then squeezed back. He wanted to reassure her that she'd done nothing wrong. It was mainly his own failure which was giving him a bad mood about much of the evening.

He did his best to get back into the dance, too, being careful not to step in the wrong way.

Nor was Kain the best at conversations... but he supposed he should try.

"I don't know if you have... but it's been several months now. It seems longer, somehow."

"It's easy to lost track of the time..." Kain followed her gaze briefly, and added, "I somehow doubt we'll ever truly leave this place."
