This was the life. Rinoa relaxed on a sun lounger, soaking up the rays. Behind her sunglasses, her eyes were closed. She could hear the waves lapping gently against the beach in the background. It was as though the dragon invasion had never happened.

A group of holidaymakers passed by, laughing and joking as they headed for the sea. Rinoa sat up to take a look around. Hmm. Maybe it was time she went for a swim. But first she needed to reapply her sun cream. She smoothed back her hair and picked up her bottle of sun lotion. Now was there anyone around who might want to help?

Kain still seemed uneasy and moody, but nodded. "...Yes, they... I ended up fighting a few people I know. Even you. Even... others."

He had been dreading that response. And now that he'd heard it from his friend himself, Cecil stopped walking. "I'm sorry.." He bowed his head slightly, frowning to himself.

Cecil wondered what it would be like were one of the beasts were to impersonate Kain. Or even Rosa. He didn't want to have to think about that at all.

Being forced to do the one thing he'd sworn not to- attack allies, or what essentially seemed to be them- had not worked out so well for Kain, either. It meant stirring up that side of himself that he'd rather be rid of, to deal with those like Cecil, Rydia and even Edge. ...but then with Rosa, he just hadn't been able to... especially since he'd thought at the time that it was really them he was fighting.

"It's fine. Anyway, we've not seen any since that attack. At least we're prepared for them if they ever do surface again."

Cecil nodded and looked out towards the water. "Yes, you're right," he murmured after a long moment of saying nothing. "I can only hope that should there be another attack, we will all be nearby or together."

Kain shrugged. "We would all hope for that, but realistically... we must always prepare for the worst."

Looking over, Cecil gave Kain a pointed look. "Well if you stopped disappearing so much, perhaps we might all be together again. Like the old days."

That look he was being given made Kain sigh. He felt guilty when he avoided them, and guilty when he was in their presence. He just... couldn't win, apparently.

"A lot has happened since those days of the past..." But he felt a little wistful, suddenly, missing the simpler times before that fateful day they destroyed Mist. Or even just a time before Rosa and Cecil were seriously involved.

Kain would never win. Not unless he got around to marrying Rosa himself.

"Yes, you're right. A lot has happened. And people do change. But that does not mean we allow our faults to rule over ourselves, Kain."

Kain simply shrugged, in no mind to carry it on further.

"I'm sure you won't get much time away such as this in the future," he said as a change in subject.

Cecil frowned at him, not impressed by the way he went about in changing the topic. For now, though, he would humor him.

"I suspect this will be the only 'vacation' we get out of the many years to come."

"Unfortunately so." Kain nodded agreement. The situation they were in, that was inevitable.

"What are your thoughts on this world anyway?" he asked, stopping to turn and look at the others scattered about the beach and enjoying the weather.

Kain folded his arms and actually gave this some consideration before replying. "The world itself isn't so terrible... yet the circumstances we face are difficult, and I'm certain worse is yet to come. The threat to this world seems to be incredibly powerful."

Cecil looked over at him as he spoke, tilting his head in thought at Kain's response. "The circumstances here are no different to what we have faced before. Although I will admit that the threat here seems far more greater than whom we faced. Zeromus for instance."

"I have to agree... this threat seems more powerful than even Zeromus. We may be in for a battle of far greater magnitude." And who knew if they would have it to endure such a fight. Though if Kain wanted an ultimate trial to face, he'd certainly found it now.
