Characters: Rinoa, Garnet, OPEN
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: Rinoa attacks Alexandria. Garnet cops it. SeeDs and others save the day. Check here for more details. OPEN to anyone who wants to come help defend the city.
Location: Alexandria
Date: 30th-31st August, 1804
Warnings: Violence and death.

The Alexandrians were more resourceful than Rinoa had anticipated. It was such a backwards country that she thought it would be easy: a fun distraction while Ultimecia laid waste to bigger threats elsewhere. But a squadron of airships had found them en route from the ruins of Midgar and proceeded to harry them all the way to the city.

The good thing was that it became easier to convince some of the students that Alexandria ought to be invaded. The rest were bewildered and scared; the entire Garden was in disarray. Rinoa didn't really care at this point. Garden was merely a vehicle.

A small squadron of students had been instructed to attack the city. But that wasn't Rinoa's destination. Under cover of darkness, she flew into the city, moving from rooftop to rooftop and casting fire spells as she went. Very soon, smoke and flames filled the air, along with the screams of panicked citizens. As the city burned and confusion took over, the SeeD students moved in to begin the battle. Rinoa didn't stop to watch them.

She moved on, staying too low for the airships to safely reach her, until the castle walls loomed before her. Here she abandoned stealth and flew straight up, her wings flashing white in the darkness. Shouts of startled guards followed her, but they couldn't chase her into the sky. The first Flare smashed into a turret, killing two soldiers and reducing half the turret to rubble. Rinoa was exhilarated. This was everything Ultimecia had promised her, and more.

There would be more deaths to come.

Celes definitely slid into practiced warrior mode, grabbing hold of the wall nearby so she wasn't swept away completely. Runic didn't work on full-ally attacks, which had always angered her. Taking a deep breath as the spell ended, she glanced at Terra and swung in to draw Rinoa's attention to her and her shield.

The expression in her eyes was cold and calculating, similar and yet different to anything the Sorceress had shown them. Let her deal with the general who had once torched a town and many of its inhabitants. See how she liked that.

Of course, Irvine was at the biggest disadvantage as the wind circled, the force knocked him down to the ground almost close to the edge of the tower. Using the dagger, he he slammed it in between some of the stone in order to gain some sort of handle. When the wind died down, he picked himself up and glared at Rinoa.

He still wasn't talking. There wasn't anything he could say now.

Selphie braced herself against a wall as the winds whipped her hair in every direction before dissipating behind them. She could hear the cries of the people who weren't expecting the attack as the perky brunette found herself discovering a new talent of her own. Quickly, the words of a spell that Selphie had never learned came burbling from her lips before she was casting a fire spell and directing it at her friend.

It was no match for the magic that a sorceress had in their arsenal but at least a Red Mage would help to even the score a little bit. "What the -- we can't cast magic at home..."

Not that it mattered because it meant that Selphie could help take down Rinoa without having to resort to a sneak attack. Although... the sneak attack was starting to sound like a good idea.

Well, it was worth a try. Terra didn't waste further magic on status effect spells, especially as the Firaga hit. She leaped back, but still felt the heat of the flames and cried out. Immediately afterward, she cast Cura upon those in her immediate vicinity and then leaped high. Her next spell was Holy, taking the shape of five balls of light that streaked toward Rinoa, homing in on the Sorceress. Though she hated using such powers, Terra didn't see any other choice by this point. She had to do her part to protect everyone.

'Not yet'? Of course it wasn't over yet. They'd only just begun. Even with all of them ranged up against her, he wasn't expecting the fight to be an easy one - more so if she continued to keep out of range of where it would be easiest to hit her.

But if that was how it was going to be, so be it. He would fight fire with fire. Or in this case, magic with magic, as he stepped out of the way of the worst of the fireball before turning back towards Rinoa and answering with Mystic Flurry.

A scattering of ice-shards to answer fire. It seemed fitting enough, even if it wasn't guaranteed to do particularly much damage.

His friends casting magic upon each other made his highly confused, as the flames from Rinoa's firaga blasted towards him. He quickly managed the jump back away from the flames. He couldn't do anything.

All he had was a puny dagger, and a damn short fuse. He had to do something, and something quick. For now, all he could do was watch idly by at his friends fighting.

Rydia, you're free to say if this works or not

Celes knew she couldn't swing at Rinoa from where the woman was up in the sky, but the moment her attention was taken away from them was the moment Celes decided to change the score: She cast Vanish on herself and slid around while Rinoa was falling through the sky. Runic was activated a moment later, and not a moment too soon.

Celes saw the Flare, knew what it meant, and hoped to goodness that her magic absorption would actually work on a single-target spell. Regardless if it did or not, she would be heading for Rinoa as quickly as she could. The Vanish spell would wear off at the moment Flare was absorbed or the moment she attacked Rinoa.

I don't see why not!

Terra's eyes widened as the Flare sped toward her...only to be absorbed by Celes' Runic ability. She couldn't be more grateful for that, but there was no time to say as much. Fine with being a target if it kept Rinoa's attention off everyone else, Terra made it a bit easier.

While still in the air, Terra began to Trance. The green-haired pale woman's appearance shifted to something more feral in appearance, yet more powerful as well. It couldn't be maintained overlong, lest she lose control, but the time allowed might be enough to make all the difference. With that, she soared upward, directing more bouts of Holy at Rinoa.

"Watch out!"

Selphie settled her feet into a casting position before she begins hurling fireball after fireball at her friend. These people had come to help them with their current debacle and there was no chance in hell that Selphie wasn't going to do everything in her power to help them out. She purposefully aimed the spells inbetween Rinoa and Terra, intent on distracting Rinoa enough so that the others could take her down out of the sky.

While Squall couldn't tell the reason that Rinoa hadn't defended herself, he had noticed that she hadn't, in that brief moment after his attack. And if he could force her to do so again, then perhaps that would back all the difference - even if he hated himself for thinking of Rinoa as if she were an enemy.

Even if she technically was, right now, and after a moment, another scattering of ice shards flew through the sky after Selphie's fireballs. The more distracted Rinoa was the better.
