Characters: Reis Duelar, Kain Highwind, Mjrn and OPEN to anyone in Troia
Progress: Complete
Summary: Reis pays a visit to Zephyr and teaches breathing attacks.
Location: Troia
Date: October 1804
Warnings: n/a
Other: Feel free to encounter Reis anywhere in the town or at the castle.
This was only the fourth time Reis had traveled on an airship and she found it no less fascinating than the first. Once when brought to the safety of Figaro, once to Guadosalam, and then the return trip after returning Zephyr. To think that such wondrous technology was commonplace here. That she stood on the deck of something rumored to have existed before the Cataclysm.
She stood at the railing watching for the first signs of land to appear instead of the vast stretch of waters. They flew a southeasterly course, and eventually land appeared, only to give way to ocean again as they passed beyond islands with ruins and settlements. At last the vessel began to descend and the Dragonkin knew they must be arriving. What lay below was a modest town and a castle not too far from it. That would be her destination. Her eagerness to see little Zephyr again was high, and in her impatience to speed the process she collected her meager travel baggage and crossed to the exit. While she waited for the ramp to be lowered, she checked her belongings one last time. A simple Croakadile Bag at her side and a dab of Chantage at her wrists. A simple pair of barrettes held back her free-flowing blond hair, exposing her slightly pointed ears. Most were too busy to pay that much mind to an ordinary maiden traveling alone.
Soon she'd left behind the transport which had so awed her and passed through the town to the castle. Her name and intent were given to the guards at the gate. They seemed quite perplexed that she inquired after a dragon and after a moment's thought, she also supplied the name of Zephyr's dragoon guardian. That provided a far more favorable response and she was escorted to where both might be found.

Date: 2010-10-16 04:21 am (UTC)Her lecture on proper care of stretching dragon skin, she gave her full attention back to the little dragon. "Tell me, have you only concentrated on outgrowing your skin or have you practiced your breathing since I last saw you?" Her tone was light and reflected how fond she was of Zephyr, but at the same time carried a hint of authority. Laziness in a dragon was a failing.

Date: 2010-10-16 05:05 am (UTC)"I'll be sure and do that for her. Thank you for the advice," Kain replied to Reis, nodding. He would take it with the utmost seriousness, too, since he knew her word was the best to follow when it came to dragons. He glanced expectantly at Zephyr. "Show her how well you're doing with your fire."
Zephyr was very eager to demonstrate, and she moved away from the people a little and turned her head off to face the open air. As she breathed out, a steady burst of flame roared forth.
Kain gave another almost-smile. "Another skill I truly envy." Along with the power of flight, of course. But he was also clearly very proud of Zephyr's progress with fire.

Date: 2010-10-17 06:43 pm (UTC)She couldn't help but not in agreement with Kain. "That she can be airborne is one I envy most, but I would see her breathing skill as well. Will you demonstrate for us?" The Viera glanced back to their dragon friend, very curious and hoping it could be done without damage to the surrounding area.

Date: 2010-10-17 11:20 pm (UTC)Stepping forward to the edge of the balcony, she rested her hands on the parapet. A moment was stolen to concentrate, and then a breath taken. When Reis breathed out, the exhale came with crackling thunderbolts licking forward and racing through the air before her.
"I should think with practice you could learn." The ability was nothing extraordinary to her and was fairly well shrugged off. Rather, she turned her attention to her young pupil and called out to her, "Zephyr, how fares your Ice?"

Date: 2010-10-18 04:09 am (UTC)"...it's an ability that we could learn?" He knew that things were different here, and had found the additional skills for Dragoons useful, but breathing like that was certainly a technique he'd like to find out more about. Especially as he was right now. He was taking every opportunity to train using the skills he could do.
Then he turned to Zephyr to watch her next demonstration. The small dragon once more turned her head aside and breathed out, this time with a frigid blast of Ice.

Date: 2010-10-20 01:39 am (UTC)"We may? How might this be done?" She couldn't help but wonder if it was somehow different from whatever Reis was teaching Zephyr. Or was it the same? Were dragoons that closely tied, that it might not matter?

Date: 2010-10-20 03:22 am (UTC)Turning around, she folded her hands before her and nodded. "Certainly you could, provided you have made a study of how a dragon's breath transmutes into elemental magic. That mastery must needs come first, as it is the foundation on which all other breath attacks are developed. For dragonkind it is nature. For Humes 'tis a matter of study, observation, diligence and practice."

Date: 2010-10-20 04:29 am (UTC)Then he became thoughtful, because like Mjrn he was surprised that it was even possible to pick up such a skill. "I had no idea it was possible... but I intend to master this ability." Especially because right now Kain needed to explore every new possibility for fighting that he could. "Is there anything else we should be aware of? Any further advice you might have about learning?"

Date: 2010-10-20 08:47 pm (UTC)She paused, intending to be silent and listen, but another question came to mind. "How long in the training process, until mastery is gained?" As curious as she was, the answer might make a difference.

Date: 2010-10-21 02:15 am (UTC)She stepped over to Zephyr and lavished some praise on her for her success and discussed the matter of control, exhorting her to continue practicing.
"As to advice, I caution you to moderation. Too little exhaled at one time and the body is damaged from within. Too much and it becomes uncontrollable, inviting catastrophe. Be zealous and attentive students, but do not think to rush or power through the learning."

Date: 2010-10-21 04:41 am (UTC)"...and you're welcome to come observe Zephyr as much as you would like, Mjrn." The least he could do was extend such an offer. "I will keep the warnings in mind, as well, and heed them. This means a great deal to me, Reis... thank you for informing us of this opportunity." Kain felt even better about the present situation, now.

Date: 2010-10-25 02:21 am (UTC)Glancing over Kain, she nodded with a small smile. "Thank you, Kain. I am certain observing Zephyr and her progress will be of great aid."
