If there was a theme to Basch's memories, it was ridiculously easy to point out. After reliving Noah's death, and their childhood, it only seemed fair that he would think of his brother once more.

The scenery changed around the three of them to what looked like a palatial estate. Ivalice's buildings were things of wonder, and this was no exception. The sun was bright, the day was warm. It seemed perfect.

"Ivalice." His voice almost sounded a bit disappointed. He knew he wasn't home, and yet, he longed to be back there. The slight clanking of armor made him look up from his musings, and immediately he was swept away in the memory. The man walking towards him was Gabranth. Noah removed the helmet, the near spitting image of Basch.

"Brother, you are well." Basch hid the shock in his voice. He hadn't been expecting Noah up so soon after being wounded so.

Gabranth shook his head. "Well enough. I will no longer lay in a bed to have people fuss over me."

It was one of those rare moments that Basch chuckled. "It had been merely days. You should continue to rest."

Terra's gaze soon turned back to the vision, anyway. The fond smile provoked one of her own, though that faded as their companion seemed to rouse from that memory.

"...Basch?" Her voice was gentle, that one word asking if he was alright...or would be. She wasn't sure whether or not it was her place to ask anything else, but pleasant memories could be just as painful as tragic ones, when it came to people lost.

Cecil or Terra next?

"That was... your brother again, wasn't it?" Cecil asked quietly.

Even without being able to see the whole memory, it was clear the two brothers were close. Cecil was -- not envious, exactly, when he had much to be grateful for -- but he certainly wished he had happy memories with his own brother to look back on.

Cecil!

Suddenly, she thought of Leo. One of her deepest regrets was that she couldn't save him in time. Kefka had betrayed him too quickly for that, a memory she hoped would never manifest in this place. Pushing such thoughts aside, she nodded sympathetically. "So, this place doesn't just show us our pasts. It also shows us...what we want?"

gotcha!

"My apologies," Cecil said, and with no small amount of sympathy; he could relate to Basch all too well. He had lost a brother just as quickly as he'd gained one. Even though he still lived, they'd said their farewells to one another almost two decades ago. "So... not all of what we see is memory? You may be right, Terra."

Still, her suggestion made Cecil wonder. What did he want? The answer barely needed consideration, it came to him so quickly. The world -- no, all worlds -- Gaia, his own world, his friends' worlds... He wanted them all to be at peace. He wanted his wife and son to be safe and happy. He wanted his kingdom to be at peace once more.

Despite all those things that sprung to his mind, he was about to see something quite different. He stepped forward and the surroundings changed; the earth becoming grey, lifeless and hard underfoot. Overhead, there shone a blanket of stars. Craters and cliffs littered the landscape, and in the distant sky, his planet was visible. Pervading it all was a complete and unearthly silence.

"The second moon..." Cecil murmured, almost not wanting to break the quiet peace of the place. But he was caught in another memory, and when he stepped forward, he was suddenly clad from head to toe in the black armour of a dark knight. No sooner had he done so that a blast of lightning struck from behind. He leapt aside and it missed by hair's breadth. Whipping around to find his attacker, he jolted with surprise. On a higher outcropping of rock, there was a huge, imposing man in dark armour and cape.

Golbez.

"So you still persist." The man spoke in a deep, rumbling voice. "I thought despair would have crushed you by now."

Cecil stepped forward. "Brother, why do you do this?" Though the knight's face was now hidden by the dark armour, his voice gave him away as being much younger. Hurt and confusion were all too evident.

Golbez's tone remained cold. "In this world ruled by chaos, I care only that my wish be fulfilled."

"And what is your wish?"

"The answer must be obtained by your own hands." The warlock's feet left the ground as he levitated, and crossed his arms into a fighting stance. "If you seek it...!"

"I understand." Cecil summoned his spear in a burst of dark flame, also assuming a battle pose. "The vow with my friends gives me strength!"
