Characters: Celes, Locke, Balthier, Setzer
Progress: Incomplete
Summary: Return to the fire
Location: The Fire Shrine
Date: June 11th
Warnings: Violence, awkward times

Getting dropped down into the boiling lake of lava was something Celes hadn't really wanted to experience twice. However, when Regent Cid had suggested it, she'd taken up the opportunity, since she'd been there once before, so she knew the way well enough. By now, she was fairly certain the men with her would understand that she wasn't one to trifle with and she knew her way around a battlefield. She would lead them.

"If anyone has any last minute things to do, you'd better do them now," she warned, minutes before they were dropped into the shrine. "Once we're there, no turning back. The ship can't get close or it'll burn, so we'll have to be dropped in."

Once she was sure everyone was ready, with ice weapons and armor in place, she led the group downward, dropping off to start the team's approach into the shrine.

"All set," was all Balthier said to confirm, having made certain to stock up on appropriate ammunition and other useful items before departing. There was nothing left to do but infiltrate the shrine itself, and when the time came, he followed Celes' lead and forced his muscles to relax as he dropped down to the shrine's entrance.

The heat here was going to be murder on his skin. Oh, well. Sacrifices must be made.

"Charming," he remarked with a raised brow as he surveyed the entrance. "Very homey sort of place."

Locke checked to make sure his boomerang and daggers were sharp and ready before reaching up to tighten his bandanna. He looked down, thankful that he didn't get as queasy on airships as boats. As tough as the battle on Terra had been, he had gained a new found respect for those that had opened the way.

He followed everyone out of the airship, rolling to his feet before looking into the shrine. "Wow, you had to go in there to send us to Terra?"

He kept to her back as usual, admiring the view, waiting for direction.

What sort of last-minute things did one have shortly before dropped into what looked to be an active volcano, Setzer wondered. The place was going to be hell on his cards though - he'd need to stick with darts until he was sure they wouldn't end up setting themselves on fire in their way to striking whatever enemies they ran into.

But no matter. If this was where they needed to be, he'd make do.

"Not a place I'd willing return to."

Content enough to let Celes take the lead, Balthier fell back a few places so that he fell into step with his fellow pilot, giving Setzer a sideways glance as they progressed. For all the tension, he hoped it wouldn't have any negative effects on their newly kindled friendship.

There were other things, however, that were more pressing at the moment.

"I don't doubt it. At least it won't catch us by surprise, prepared as we are."

Locke strained to look ahead, hoping to catch a glimpse of the guardian in front of them. Knowing that the cavern was familiar to Celes, Locke's urge to scout ahead was diminished until the mention of traps. He kept his eyes peeled, watching anxiously for any hint of something out of the ordinary.

"Garland could still surprise us."

Were Locke and Balthier past cordial correspondence, he would have joked with the pirate about leaving their personal issues on the airship. As it was, Locke's concentration rested on ensuring the defeat of their foe with no injury or casualty.

Tension was nothing particularly new to Setzer. Admittedly, romantic tension was something on the new side, but he wasn't about to let it get in the way of things. He didn't have much of an interest in the lady's affections and even if he had, there was the matter of the task at hand to turn to.

"Then best we assume he might, I'd wager."
