Summary: The party you've all been waiting for: the Grand Ball of Alexandria!
Location: Palace Alexandria
Date: June 21st, 1803
Warnings: TBA. Eventually, Violence.

For weeks, the palace had been abuzz with activity; even more so than usual. On top of the usual hustle and bustle of daily life, there were the extensive preparations to be done for the festival, and this, the grand finale. The palace's largest ballroom had been decorated from floor to ceiling, wall to wall. Long elaborate draperies of silk and chiffon in white and cream, the stairs lined in a rich, crimson carpeting. Gold and silver everywhere, framing the large windows and the door opening out to the courtyard. A warm summer evening, with the roses in full bloom. Flowers adorned every table, column, and doorway. It wasn't just the ballroom that had been decorated, however; the entire palace was decked in regalia, the staff having obviously anticipated the crowd to be much larger than usual.

All around the palace, inside and out, the guard was on high alert. Every guest was greeted, checked, and in the case of the higher-ranked, announced to the company at large. The sun had not quite set, and already the ballroom was half full; nobles and low-born alike, natives and foreigners, all dressed in their best. The guest of honor had yet to make her appearance, but no one seemed to be fussed by the fact.

But the night was young, and there was bound to plenty of seeing and being seen before the night was over.

[[ooc: Here we go, everyone! Party style still applies. Tag in, tag each other, mingle, HAVE FUN!... while you can. Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged. ^.^]]

Update: A fist fight broke out on page two. Feel free to ninja in to spectate, generally comment or gasp, or just read it and have a laugh. Appropriate authority figures... Squall, Steiner, etc may need to step in.

It was fortunate in a way that Jote's attention was elsewhere, for Mjrn could not stop staring. She half-wondered if her imagination had gotten the better of her, though even before she would not have imagined such a strange scenario. Indeed, she would have thought it impossible.

She headed over, still mystified as to her sister's presence, but there was no point in staring all night. "...Jote?" Perhaps hearing Jote's voice would finally convince her that this was happening.

The sound of her name from so familiar a voice brought Jote's attention around to the equally familiar sight of her sister walking forward. She tensed slightly before giving a nod. "Mjrn. I expected you would attend." Well, this was going to be an interesting encounter.

"I was curious." Mjrn was relatively more comfortable in their surroundings, but there was still a slight edge to her. She was not accustomed to such formality and learning as much as she could while remaining on high alert for the trouble Kain suspected might arrive was exhausting. "You were, as well?" She couldn't think of any other reason for Jote to attend, unless it had something to do with what she had told Jote about the threat to Alexandria. But...why would that concern her?

Curiosity. That was the curse of all who left the Wood, the curse Jote was trying to avoid. "I had simply wished to see what it was that may have caught your attention so soon."

Well, that and the threat were high on her mind. She'd brought a weapon and it was at least not too far away for her to rush to get it. Silly Humes and their rules.

"...The wind has been silent, resting in the boughs of late. I wished to see what I could while it was so."

Mjrn nodded, content not to push overmuch. That Jote had attended at all was amazing enough, and she knew better than to expect more when she was so obviously outside her comfort zone. Her expression grew serious. "I pray that it remains so, that this fete remains undisturbed. Yet...there is one whose threats have not faded from my ears. I believe he meant his words and might arrive ere the celebration has finished."

Jote nodded seriously, frowning slightly. "If this is one you are alert for... then I, too, shall keep watch."

It was as good as saying she would protect those who were here, but she wouldn't admit that it was to protect her sister more than anything else. Mjrn was important to her, Fran as well, and Jote would be loathe to allow anything to harm them.

"Have you seen this threat of late?"
