Characters: Vayne and OPEN to everyone who went to Wutai
Progress: Ongoing
Summary: With Kefka already vanished and a small army of would be defenders present, Vayne extends his hospitality by hosting them all.
Location: Wutai
Date: January, 1804
Warnings: Probably political schmoozing out the nose. Beyond that, nothing comes to mind.
Other: Feel free to treat this like you would a party event. There's a lot of us in Wutai, so go ahead and start subthreads to interact with each other as well as Vayne. My inbox can handle it. RAWR!

To put it blunty, Vayne was pissed. Gabranth had dawdled in returning to Wutai, leaving it shorthanded on defenders. Larsa had arrived, prepared to battle, and without the mercenaries paid to guard him. Ondore was off blathering about Ivalice politics in the the thinly veiled guise of fiction. All of these irritations were matters that he would normally treat as a challenge to be overcome, but that madman Kefka had to go and torch the place.  Not that he particularly cared in the slightest, but the village was a means to an end. Still, the Solidor was already calculating how to turn this to his benefit.  In fact, in objective reasoning, while it hindered one aspect of his planning, it served to far advance others strategies he had not counted on being able to employ. Yes, this would be beneficial in the end. Yet he was angered, even if his stoic demeanor did not reveal it.

And Vayne Solidor angered was a dangerous force indeed.

Still, there was a small army of defenders who had presented themselves to face off with the false god in facepaint. With a good portion of the town smoldering and in ashes, it was necessary and prudent that he accomodate them all within his own residence. Fortunately, that had been spared. So he put on the facade of the deeply concerned and caring leader, suffering the harm to his protectorate as a personal blow, and invited them all to stay with him, as thanks for their efforts. Now the task before him was to win over them all, whilst coordinating and delegating others to find shelter for the newly homeless and to begin the repair efforts.

Even with the rage and frustration, Tidus could give her a smile. It wasn't as bright as normal, but in the middle of everything, all the wreckage and the burnt wood, that probably wasn't out of the ordinary.

"Thanks." With a final shove, the timber fell onto the pile with a pretty spectacular crash - trash fell down the top as the whole thing came unbalanced and some small pieces that had been thrown higher came tumbling down. Tidus ignored it, turning away to pull off his gloves and stuff them in a pocket before taking the tray from her. "Guess I do... It's kind of like Kilika all over again."

Innocent people, who just wanted to live their own lives. Damnit.

Tidus followed with the tray, sitting next to her and balancing it on his knees. There wasn't a lot to say about Kilika - that was when he'd first realized how serious everything was, began to understand what the real mission against Sin was all about. This... was definitely similar.

But he didn't have... a lot he could say to that. Tidus looked down, a lot of the anger leaving him as he thought about Spira. He hadn't been from there, but... in the end, he had, hadn't he? "...Yeah. I do, too."

But... he couldn't go back.

And Tidus brought his arm up around her shoulders - his own food and drink still untouched. He had to say something, but this wasn't going to be a good reminder.

"...They'll have to come here." He didn't like the idea - Gaia wasn't bad, but it wasn't home. "...Unless you want to go back. Then you should."

That had been necessary - he couldn't hold himself above an entire world. It had been way, way too much for him to turn a blind eye to how good the permanent destruction of Sin would be for everyone - except himself. He just couldn't do it.

Tidus sighed and rested his head on hers, hugging her a little tighter. "But if you want to... or need to... You should. If we had a way." He'd cope. Tidus was getting pretty good at coping, even if he'd always feel like part of him was missing.

His throat tightened and he pulled her closer, putting the tray on the ground for now as he tried to comfort her.

"I don't wanna lose you." Tidus spoke quietly, trying to explain himself and knowing he'd do a terrible job. "Just... some things... they're bigger than us. Right?"

Heh. Yeah, they'd gotten a second chance, hadn't they? Tidus wasn't about to throw it away unless it was absolutely necessary.

"Got it. You know that goes for me, too."

"You won't. I'm not going anywhere."

...At least, he didn't plan to. Whatever kept yanking them around the world might not leave him alone, but Tidus wasn't going off on his own volition.

"Yeah, I know. You too." Tidus picked up the tray and held it out to her, waiting for her to take one of the plates. "We're not gonna do anyone any good if we're falling over."
