Characters: Any who attended the Heads of State meeting.
Progress: In Progress
Summary: After the meeting adjourns, there are private conversations to be had.
Location: Dali
Date: January 1804, before the Epitaph invasion
Warnings: N/A

After several hours over the table, the meeting was adjourned; many parties left dissatisfied, disgruntled, and in some cases, even afraid. Compared to the last meeting aboard Regent Cid's Invincible, the meeting in Dali had been a joke. There were even more present than the first time, and somehow, it was less productive. The only thing everyone seemed united on, was that Kefka, Weiss, and others of their kind needed to be stopped. At what cost is where everything fell to pieces. As the crowd dispersed, the old mage factory was left with stirred-up dust and the heavy feeling of words and feelings unspoken.

[ Party Style! Tag in, and tag each other. If there's people you need to talk to while you're still in Dali, this is the place to do it. Threads can occur anywhere in Dali, from the factory, to the Inn, the fields, etc. ]

"Yes, he was." It was a hard fact to concede, but then, Vayne had learned to recognize greed in others, himself included. "The men of House Solidor are taught to put the needs of others above their own. But my father twisted this as he wished, and to justify his conquests. Standing opposed to him was a fatal proposition. He ordered my elder brothers executed for treason. So you see, Marquis Ondore is right to loathe all that my empire stands for."

Vayne sighed, and looked away. He honestly didn't have a whit of trouble running down the name of his dead father, but it was important for Garnet to understand all from his point of view. "I had hopes that we might all put aside differences of the past, for the sake of the greater good. But it seems it is not to be so. This is the inheritance left to me, my burden to bear, much to my shame. I would have people honor what King Raminas stood for, and embrace peace rather than war."

A deep breath, and then a look back to Garnet at last. "I am sorry, Garnet. I did not wish to bring these wearisome troubles to your doorstep."

There was no hiding her reaction; a father, ordering the execution of his own sons. It was absolutely horrifying, not to mention heartbreaking. More and more, as much as she hated to admit it, she saw the shadows of a life she could have lead; Brahne, in her last days, had been driven to madness, and Garnet's own death was, if only for a moment, something she had commanded.

Without realizing it, Garnet reached up and wrapped her fingers round the stone that hung around her neck. She looked up at Vayne with sympathetic eyes.

"What is done, is done, and it cannot be undone. All that we can do now is move forward, and hope that everyone can see that fighting amongst ourselves will get us nowhere."

Unlike the vast majority of those gathered, Gaia was her home, and place she and many others had fought long and hard to protect from outside forces that meant them harm. She would not simply stand back and watch alien affairs tear this world apart.
