Cecil's departure had very nearly set Rosa's world upside down. In fact, she had come to wonder how she was still upright. Rydia's arrival had been a blessing, as the summoner had practically forced her to sleep and even though she'd slept fitfully, at least she'd rested some. Something was always better than nothing.

She'd done what she could for the people of Troia, following Vayne's strategical suggestions thoroughly. Once reinforcements had arrived, the pirates had been conquered and Rosa could now rest easily. As soon as she had finished patching up those who had been injured in the subsequent battles and made sure the citizens were all right still, Rosa knew she needed to thank those who had come to her aid. Without them, she and the town of Troia would have been overrun in a matter of minutes.

So, she'd issued an order for everyone to either meet in the middle of the town or to allow her to find them. With any luck at all, those who had assisted her would allow her this one final request.

As much as Rosa told everyone that she wasn't really responsible for the fact that Troia was now pirate-free, they insisted on thanking her and as long as everyone was all right with everything, she'd be okay, too. Still, she looked around for the faces she needed to see, making her way over to one in particular.

She owed Vayne a great deal of her thanks and he was the most important one for her to find right now. As soon as she arrived next to him, Rosa smiled politely.

"Lord Vayne. Your assistance has saved many of us and allowed us to rest more easily. I cannot thank you enough."

"There is no need for titles among friends, is there?" he asked stoically of Rosa. Vayne bestowed a half-smile on the white mage, possibly the warmest expression he was known to show and dipped his head. "And I must protest you laying gratitude at my feet as well. I am pleased that I have found a way to be of service to the greater good."

Rosa inclined her head in response. Not using titles with one who so obviously deserved the respect was foreign to her, but she quickly made a note to do as requested. "I am simply thankful for the aid everyone has offered me. I could not have managed it on my own."

She paused, smiling gratefully, before continuing. "I hope you are well after the battle and that the pirates did not trouble you too much."

Rosa's mention of loneliness prompted Vayne to resume his stoic expression. While he was quite fond of the couple here in Troia, he was not entirely sure he approved the implication that Rosa was not strong enough to stand on her own. Although it did make his assumed takeover of the city all that much easier to accomplish, it provided little challenge.

"Not too much. I regret that I did not have the foresight to realize that there were others roving the sea beyond those we were tracking. If you have no objections, I should like to keep some of the men here, as a precaution against any returns or collaborations."

Rosa glanced up at Vayne as he made his suggestion and she nodded once, smiling with relief. "I would appreciate that very much. Protecting people isn't always what I'm best at, nor is leading a city. It'll be much easier with help."

Much easier and much less stressful. Once she had some time to herself, she could properly mourn her husband's loss and deal with the aftermath. And if there was anything Rosa needed right now, it was a little peace and quiet.
