Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects. 

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

"...Refia?" Rydia emerged from the crowd, having caught sight of familiar bright hair while searing for friends. She was wearing a very un-Gaian jade green dress, plenty of fabric but all of it light. It seemed to practically float along with her.

A smile formed at her lips as she realized that her guess was right. Oh, good. It had been a while, too. "Hello again! That is a lovely dress. It suits you so well."

Refia spun at that voice, starting to smile widely. It was always good to see Rydia. "Rydia! There you are! I knew you'd come!" Since Eiko was one of the summoners and Rydia seemed to have a soft spot for them, it only made sense.

And she smiled at the dress - it wasn't Gaian, but it was entirely Rydia. "That's a very interesting dress you found."

"I made it, actually." Rydia smiled proudly. Really, it hadn't been that difficult. That it was all the same fabric, without any embroidery or elaborate design, meant the the task went by rather swiftly once she had an idea of what she wanted to do.

"Are you enjoying yourself--no, thank you." Rydia refused an offered tray of sweets from a moogle waiter.

Her eyes nearly popped at that, a hand coming up to her mouth as she processed this. The dress was wonderful - not something she would ever wear, but still wonderful - and she'd never been very good with a needle. "You made that? That's incredible!"

Rydia blushed and nodded, pleased that her work had paid off. "Thank you. I knew I wasn't going to find what I wanted for the ball, so I decided to go ahead and make it myself."

And that was the end of her simple story. "Oh! How is your business going?"

"Wonderful! I keep learning a lot, every day. I'd never even heard of this before Gaia, but it's interesting and never the same from day to day." She was finally perfectly happy with her job - not that Refia would know that, but she'd had issues with just being a blacksmith.

World-traveling was certainly a hell of a way to find a solution, though.

"Wade even lets me go away sometimes - not for long, but a day or two is fine with him. He's a very good master."

"I'm glad to hear it. I'll have to stop in at your shop, before I leave Lindblum. We'll probably be here a few days after this, and then...we'll see." Rydia shrugged. She guessed it was expected of her to head back to Troia, but she wasn't certain that would happen.
