Event: Eiko's Birthday Ball

Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects. 

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

Denzel squirmed and wriggled. Although he (http://i44.tinypic.com/fdav08.jpg) wasn't as formally dressed as some of the older males, it was about as formal as the eight year old could get without complaining for the whole night. His tie was annoying him and he really wanted to take it off.

Once Eiko's arrival was announced, it didn't take Denzel long to make his way through the crowd to her - ducking under arms, nudging past hips until he was stood in front of her.

Wow... she looked just like a princess! It took Denzel a long time to find his voice. "You look beautiful."

He held out a small box to her. Inside, was a necklace, holding the marble he had been carrying in his pocket when he first arrived on Gaia. "Happy Birthday, Eiko."

"Denzel!" Eiko squealed, grabbing hold of him for an excited hug, before grasping the box he offered her. One hand shot out, giving the gift handlers one very imperious little shooing, so she could open it in peace. "You look great! What's in the box?" He'd already given her the egg and that was present enough.

Either way, she ripped into it eagerly and immediately moved to put on the necklace. "It's perfect!"

The young boy reached out to take the necklace from her, just like he'd seen in those cheesy classic movies back home. "Here, let me." He stood behind her, looping the chain around her neck and fastened the clasp. "There, all done."

He smiled bright. He was glad she liked it, after all, as cool as a chocobo egg is, he didn't really feel like it was a proper present. He was supposed to have taken it home for scrambled eggs.

Helping her put on the necklace was just the right thing to do. It's sooooooooo romantic. In fact, Eiko was very much reminded of watching Cid do something similar for Hilda from time to time, when they didn't realize she was around. "I'm never ever going to take it off," she vowed, while nodding solemnly at Denzel. "Not even at bathtime."

"I'm glad you like it." He leaned in, pressing a soft kiss to Eiko's cheek. "Your party is amazing! Everything is really regal and everything."

He smiled, reaching for Eiko's hand. "Wanna dance?"

"Regal is boring," she informed him, puckering her lips. "It's all curtsies and manners and 'Thank you, Lord I-Smell-Like-Malboro' and 'I'm so pleased to meet you, Lady Chinhair.' Ick." Still, an offer to dance with her favorite boy in the whole wide world was too good to turn down, so she nodded, as a smile returned to her face. "Yeah, let's dance! And then we can play tag!"

Denzel ran towards the dance floor, pulling Eiko by the hand. So maybe it wasn't the most regal and proper of dance invitations, but he had never really been all that regal around Eiko at all, he was just himself.

"Are you sure we're allowed to play tag here?"

Eiko liked Denzel just fine and found his natural behavior a nice break from all the stiff rules around her house. Not necessarily by her parents even as much as the people who worked there with opinions on how children should behave in a castle. The ones who absolutely would object to her suggestion of tag. "Yup. It's my house and my party. We can do what we want!"

"Heh, okay then. One game of tag coming right up - after we dance. Because I need at least one dance from the birthday girl!" Denzel laced their fingers together, watching the other couples to see just where to put his other hand.
