Characters: OPEN to all party guests

Summary: A big party for a small girl. Yep, it's Eiko's birthday and she's having a ball.
Location: Lindblum Grand Castle
Date: March 21st, 1804
Warnings: N/A so far

Nobody could say that Regent Cid wasn't generous when it came to his adopted daughter, Eiko. In fact, some said that he was too indulgent. But on this, the evening of Eiko's tenth birthday, the citizens of Lindblum were ready and eager to celebrate. A free ball! Free drinks, free food, and a free pass into Lindblum Grand Castle. Many had failed to acquire tickets in time and were disappointed, but the lucky few piled eagerly into the castle.

Security was tight, and every single guest was checked by the guards before being allowed to enter. Once inside, they would find a wide and sumptuously decorated ballroom. A small group of musicians played slow and ambient music, while the party guests swayed across the floor dressed in all their finery. What could only be described as a flock of moogles flew or scurried around the room, offering glasses of champagne and various sweet treats. Regent Cid himself sat on a grand throne at the head of the room, nodding graciously at the guests who came to pay their respects.

The ball was already in full swing, and the party would go on for a long while yet.

[ooc: Don't worry if you didn't comment to Regent Cid's earlier post requesting tickets. Handwaving is just fine if you want to hop in. It's party style - go tag and mingle! Thread jumping and ninja tagging is encouraged.]

[ooc: Eiko has made a very loud announcement about a celebrity couple's engagement. Feel free to overhear, react or congratulate.]

Rosa blinked as she suddenly found herself being spoken to by the very girl the party had been thrown for. She'd never as much as spoken to the girl before so unless Eiko knew her companions, the girl was on a very ambitious mission to talk to everyone present.

"Yes, I am," she answered. "May I do something for you?"

"Yup. I wanted to meet you. You're really important to Kain and Rydia, so now you're important to me." Childish logic at its simplest, but there it was. "So tell me about you. How old are you? Where are you from? How did you meet them? Do you like Kain or that other guy?"

Just what had this child been told?

Rosa had no idea where she was getting all these questions, but she resolved to ask Rydia if she knew later on. "They're both very good friends of mine. I met Rydia while traveling, and I've known Kain for years. He and Cecil have been friends since childhood."

The White Mage frowned at the last question, though. Where on earth had this come from? "Cecil and I were engaged here before he disappeared." Which was as much of an answer as anyone really needed. It all said the same thing. "What brought so many questions, Lady Eiko?"

What a pickle. Eiko had already been struggling with the concept that not everything could be black and white, right and wrong, and here she was smack up against it in a new way. She was pretty sure her dragoon friend liked this lady, but if she was engaged, then that was that. She sure as heck wasn't going to admit to grilling Rosa to find out if she was an acceptable choice like she'd done with other people interested in her friends, especially since the answer had been given her already.

"I want to know more about my friends' friends," she answered, as truthful as she could be in the situation.

Poor Eiko, though it was probably a good idea that Rosa had no idea what was really going through her mind. Kain was always a difficult subject, and she had an inkling that she was special to him, though not quite to the exact extent.

The answer Eiko gave was an acceptable one, though, and Rosa smiled in response. "Have you met Cecil yet?"

"Not yet, but I want to. I'm glad he's back. Rydia was really sad when he went away." Eiko looked down for a minute, thinking about some of the other people she'd grown attached to who vanished too. It wasn't fair to have friends taken away like that. It occurred to her that Rydia could vanish on her too and that idea really distressed her. "Is he a nice guy?"

"She and I both were," Rosa murmured sadly for a moment, reaching out to gently rest a hand on Eiko's shoulder. "But the important thing is that Cecil's back and safe. I'd rather he be at home and safe than here and in danger."

The question brought a smile to her lips, though. "He's very kind. Someday, when he and I may visit you, I'll introduce you. I'm certain he wouldn't mind meeting you."
