The Pirate Party

Summary: A party to get over all the drama (and to celebrate a pirate's birthday but only a few people know that so shhhh.)
Location: Just outside Wutai
Date: February 27th, 1804
Warnings: Um. Alcohol, pirates, drunken Selphie, probably a lot of innuendo and... a surprise later~!


The evening was set and any guests that had needed to be picked up had been. Balthier had done a tour of Gaia to collect the people that didn't have airships or couldn't acquire transport and set everyone down in Wutai. The Strahl was parked just outside of Wutai, where the party was to be held. Technically, it wasn't in Wutai, thus should any complay about the noise or the crowd, then there would be no reason they should leave. Balthier had strategically set them outside of Wutai, and asked permission, to keep things settled.

He didn't exactly want this to blow up in everyone's faces after the slew of dramatics that had rolled in during the past two weeks or so, even if he was to blame for part of it.

Flames crackling on the large bonfire he had set earlier, the majority of the light in the area came from the fire and the Strahl's lights, particularly the glossair rings. Thankfully, the engine wouldn't overheat as he'd fine tuned it earlier in the morning.

An enormous table (the origins of which were not for anyone to question) stood to one side, covered all over with various party food that Fran had cooked. While she wasn't exactly a gourmet chef, the Viera was skilled enough to make decent party food for the guests. Next to that stood three smaller tables, all piled high with various different alcoholic beverages, and a small table with non-alcoholic drinks was overshadowed by the sheer mass of booze.

Balthier had paid off everyone he'd needed to pay; everything was set.

The party looked to be a good night and seemed as if it'd go without a hitch!

"Oh, alright. Good plan, really," he nodded his head and gave her another grin. "Gorgeous girl like you, maybe you can convince some of my countrymen...planetmen? Hmm. Not sure if there's a word for that. To start thinking you sky people are worth knowing!"

Rinoa smiled coyly at the compliment. "Well, we are! Is there really a lot of prejudice out there? I've been in Wutai for a long while and we helped the people out a lot so I think they're pretty grateful to Sky People... Although, it was a Sky Person who caused all the destruction in the first place." She shook her head, frowning. "It's not fair that just a few crazy people make all the rest of us look bad."

"Well, there's...some, yeah," Zidane didn't particularly agree with most of it, but then...Zidane tended to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, unless they had given him some reason to distrust him. Vayne had gotten no benefit, after all...but he'd tried to steal Dagger away!

"I think it's just...they're afraid of stuff they don't understand, ya know? A couple years ago we had a war that nearly destroyed the mist continent. People are still...edgy. And then you guys all start showing up..."

"It's not like we wanted to be here," Rinoa argued. "We don't understand it either. All this time and there's still so much that hasn't been explained... It's scary."

Rinoa had mostly avoided thinking about it since the Memoria event, since she'd been so relieved to be back with her friends. She still missed the ones who weren't here though. Making new friends didn't quite compensate.

"I know, I get that. I'm just telling you what other people probably think. I never said I agree with them," another smile was offered.

"And we're gonna figure this all out. I'm not really sure how, but we are." He doesn't say whether he thinks they'll all be able to go home because...well, he doesn't know if they will. But he's at least sure they should be able to stop the other nonsense going on.

Rinoa nodded, smiling back. "Well, at least you're all right." She shrugged. "This isn't really a fun topic for a party, is it? Shame on you, Zidane. You've got a pretty girl in front of you and you haven't even asked her to dance."

She drank the last of her glass of wine and looked at him, eyes gleaming.

Zidane blinked a couple times at that, and then laughed softly, nodding his head. "You're completely right. What a terrible oversight." He turned and set his glass down on whatever table was nearby, then held a hand out to her.

"Would the lovely lady care to dance?"

Rinoa set her glass down too, then took his hand. "She definitely would!"

"Good!" He took her hand and led her out onto the dance floor. And he's a good dancer, too!

"Is the music here similar to your home?"

Hurrah for that. Rinoa was slightly tipsy, but still nimble on her feet. She allowed Zidane to lead the dance, grinning at him.

"It is from home! Selphie's using the Ragnarok as a sound system. Pretty cool, huh?"

And lead he did! Quite well, for a short guy.

"It's not bad. I missed the last year I thought maybe it was something new I hadn't heard yet," he paused, and grinned. "Well, I guess it is! Just from another planet."

He was very short. She had to resist the temptation to pat him on the head or pinch his cheek.

"Yep!" Rinoa nodded. "There are lots of new things here now. We're bringing our culture to Gaia."

Poor Short Zidane. Ah well, at least he managed to get a hot queen anyway? And he really was a decent dancer, although he probably had a bit of a wandering hands problem.

"Maybe that's part of the reason why the other Gaian's are kind of off about you guys? They're worried you'll...I don't know...take over stuff?

In which case Rinoa would tut and move his hands firmly to her waist. If she'd been entirely sober, she might have gotten more indignant, but Zidane had given her something else to be indignant about.

"Well, when it's our stuff, why shouldn't we take over? Like Galbadia Garden - it belongs to SeeD. We've got more right than anyone else to be there."
