Summary: Upon Yuffie’s arrival in Wutai.

Not that Sephiroth had been moved away to Lindblum, there was little left for Vincent to do in Wutai, and he was feeling restless because of it. He wanted to go to Lindblum to check on Sephiroth and Genesis. He wanted to finally have that match with Cloud, in order to figure out what was going on with the unusually silent Chaos. He wanted to talk to Shelke and Cid, who he hadn’t spoken face to face with even when he had stayed briefly with Cloud and Tifa. He wouldn’t leave, though, because he had told Yuffie that he would meet her in Wutai. She was about to take control of the island country, and even if Yuffie tried his patience most of the time, he wasn’t going to leave during something like that.

So, in order to appease his wanderlust, Vincent had taken to walking around the town, as he was doing now. It didn’t do much to get rid of the feeling of being tied down, but it was something to do instead of leaving. The locals had gotten used to seeing him around, at this point, and mostly ignored him, and he paid little attention to them in turn. Instead, his attention was mostly turned inward, on his thoughts. As counterintuitive as it would usually seem, he hoped that Yuffie arrived soon.

Ahh, to be back once more.

Yuffie had taken her time to look around when she got to Wutai. She hadn't seen it like this since she was a little girl. No reactor, just proud, glorious Wutai. It made her happy. As much as it scared her to do this, she would make her father proud. She would make everyone proud of her.

Moving more about the town, she caught the sight of someone very familiar. It made her grin. So there he was! She stomped up about a few paces, stopping to get a good look at him. "There ya are, Vince!"

The sound of someone shouting his name drew his attention out from himself, and he turned with a silent nod as Yuffie stomped up to him with a grin on her face. "Yuffie," he replied, purposefully keeping his voice as neutral as possible. He was truthfully pleased to see her, but as always, he didn't quite let the emotion show. Half of it was an attempt to get a rise out of Yuffie, anyway.

"Did you think I'd left?" he asked, crossing his arms over his chest. "If that was the case, you could have used your Sky Phone to contact me."

The grin on the ninja's face fell, and she mock-glared at him. Oh, it'll always get a rise out of her. "You need to lighten up."

She shrugged her shoulders, closing the distance between then. "I didn't think you left... you just have a habit of hiding."

Vincent simply raised an eyebrow at her in return. He needed to do no such thing, and Yuffie should have known his opinion about that subject by now. He did not need to lighten up, he was not a vampire, et cetera.

He ignored any comment about hiding, and turned his attention to more important things. "Now that you are in Wutai, is there anything that you wanted to do? Or would you prefer to simply claim office?"

She didn't call him a vampire this time! He was out in the daylight, therefore negating her point. And yes, he did need to lighten up. Have more fun.

"Man, Wutai's not the same one that's back home. This... this is how I remembered it back when I was a kid. Before ShinRa came in and ruined it all." She sighed, spinning once around.

"Let's go be all responsible first. That's what I'm here for."

"Is that so?" Vincent paused for a moment to look around at the streets that his stay had made him familiar with. "Hmm. This Wutai is like neither version of the place I was familiar with on the Planet." He had seen Wutai before Shinra's takeover, but before the time when Yuffie remembered it as well. Then, with AVALANCHE, he had seen the current Wutai, the one that was Yuffie's home now. The change had beed startling, especially when added up to the rest of the challenges that modern times had presented to him.

"Go to the Pagoda, then," he said, gesturing in the direction of the signature building. When Yuffie started in the direction of the building, he fell in behind her. For a moment, he was quiet, before he spoke again softly. "Once this is all settled, I am leaving."

Yuffie had started off in the direction of the Pagoda, the path always familiar to her. She knew the paths back home like the back of her own hand, and this one felt no different. She kicked a rock off the path, watching it go into the underbrush.

"I figured as much." She started, clasping her hands behind her back. "You were never one to stay in one place for long, Vince."

"As long as you'll be fine here," he said, still trailing behind, the red of his cloak standing out against the background of the town. "All you need to do is let the people of the town know you're here. administration of Wutai can begin quickly enough."

After another moment of silence, Vincent tilted his head as he considered the Princess. "Did your father ever teach you anything about governing?" he asked her.

"I should be." Hopefully, she thought. She wasn't going to tell anyone, but she was so nervous. What if she didn't do a good job? What if everyone hated her? What if she couldn't do anything right?

She forced herself to take a breath and act naturally. "I was taught a little bit, but not a lot. I was too focused on rebelling against my dad than really learning when I should have... but I do remember the little he taught me."

"If you listen to what the people want, you should be all right. Try to be the things that Shinra was not, if that helps." In truth, Vincent probably wasn't the best person to give advice about being a leader, but Cloud or Reeve weren't near to give any advice. A general "don't be stupid" was better than nothing, anyway.

"No one will mind if you ask for help, either. AVALANCHE, or the other leaders on this world."

"Of course I'm not going to do that things ShinRa did! That's just... given!" She said immediately. Nor was she going to give in as easily as her father did when the war was lost. Wutai would not be a tourist attraction for ShinRa executives or random royalty.

"I just... I don't wanna suck. I want to be a good leader. I want to make everyone here happy." Not to mention she wanted to prove she could do something like this and not fail at it, and not be considered just a teenager with a habit of stealing things.

"You will do fine, Yuffie." Vincent had never been the best with giving reassurances, and it was showing. He wasn't sure what exactly to say to the young ruler, so he simply lapsed back into silence for the rest of the short trip back to the pagoda.

When they arrived, several people came out of the building towards them, apparently recognizing Yuffie from her posts to the mooglenet. Vincent didn't disappear yet, but he did draw back, clearly not intent on staying.

Yuffie didn't add to the silence either. She walked quietly, thinking. If Vincent said she'd do a good job, she would, right? She would.

Stopping at the steps up to the Pagoda, Yuffie turned towards her friend, giving him one of her trademark smiles. "You better come and visit soon!"

Without waiting for an answer, she, along with the others, went back inside. She had business to do.
