As a child, Winterfest had been one of Garnet's favorite times of year. All the festivities, the lights and garlands, and when it snowed, it was even more the beautiful, a blank pallet against which the accents of the season would be their brightest.

On this particular week of winterfest, the snow was not so thick as to inhibit travel, but present enough to dust streets and rooughtops as though they'd been rolled in powdered sugar.

And there at the center of the city of Alexandria, the castle glittered like an icicle, it's doors open to one and all -- open, though guarded. Kuja's re-appearance and Lufene's recent visit had been enough to set the military on high alert. Even so, Garnet had not budged on his insistence of a Masquerade. The dress code was not expressly formal, but festive and bright. Weaponry were checked at the door, guarded closely, to be given back to the guests on their departure, but until then, locked up tight.

Inside, the palace was decked out for the occasion -- candles and garlands and the heavy smell of pies and roasts, and baked vegetables. Music filled the halls. Alexandria Castle was the very image of Winterfest.

And tonight, there was the hope of peace, harmony, festivity, and forgiveness.
